He didn't say, and he might fit both definitions. I just don't like seeing that used as some sort of measurement of effort or success. It implies that someone who doesn't take at least 4 classes while working at least 35 hours is inferior, except that his classes are at a community college and his job is obviously not very demanding if he has the time to do everything else. Important classes tend to make it impossible to work a lot, and important jobs tend to make it impossible to take important classes.

This is really a painful truth. It's one or the other. In 2011 I tried to do both and it was just too difficult. Mid 2012 I made the transition from regional management (a static position) to remote access contracts, so I'm able to work on my own time. It helps if your classes are directly applicable to your day job, as mine are. I've found a happy balance with what I do now and I cringe when I see others try to struggle with both. It's admirable but it will burn you out and you might even be making questionable academic progress. I think the biggest point I'd like to get across is the importance of passion. Do something you're passionate about or all of it will suck regardless.
