    I went through a lot of therapy (no, seriously) and no longer do this. But it took a lot of practice and conscious consideration.

    Classic human tactic. Anyone can do it, male or female.

    I probably just ascribe it to women, because the women in my family practice it like it's a religion. The men always just yelled louder and then eventually punched each other.

    For the record, I grew up with gay and retarded as the standard insult, and I don't say it, I actually hate it a lot.
    I got that job, by the way

    Casual conversational bombs made me frown today.

    In celebration of finally opening our shop, we're having a shindig after hours. I'm not there because I opted to run to the Urgent Care instead and get me some antibiotics. But anyway, one of the ladies from corporate helping us open has a birthday today. So the party tonight is also for her. Beer, wine and cake will flow, I gather. Possibly I'll be the only sober one tomorrow for the grand opening, which is good since I'm the one dealing with the animals. Anyway! She kept protesting that she wanted the party to be all about the opening instead of her birthday.

    Her - "I don't want to hear another happy birthday! And no singing. This party is about how happy we are that you're open!"
    Me - "Well, what if we're happy you're alive too?"
    Her - "Oh I am definitely happy about that. I used to hate birthdays and tried to skip them all the time but after I lost my kids, I feel grateful that I'm alive that what's left of my family's alive..."
    Me - "..." Meanwhile I'm thinking, What do you mean lost? Lost as in they went off to college and you've got empty nest syndrome? Lost as in DEAD?? I barely know you! What am I supposed to say if your children are dead!? "I'm so sorry" sounds lame and COMPLETELY inadequate against a mother's loss of her children.

    All I managed was a weak little "Um..." Thankfully, a friend of my boss swooped in to talk about something else. I confess, I broke out in a sweat. Damn, I hate people. Glad I work with dogs. Probably would have been a little smoother if I weren't clogged with mucus and swaying where I stood. Still, Jebus, just say, "Since some bad stuff happened, I've learned to appreciate every year of life more." or something.

    Well, you're probably an objectively better person than I am.

    To PB- I will address these one at a time.

    Top 5 Reasons to Stay in School
    1. High school dropouts are four times as likely to be unemployed as those who have completed four or more years of college;

    -I have not been unemployed for longer than three months since I was 17 years old.

    2. Graduating from high school will determine how well you live for the next 50 years of your life. High school graduates earn $143 more per week than high school dropouts. College graduates earn $336 more per week than high school graduates ($479 more per week than high school dropouts);

    -Money is not requisite for happiness beyond meeting your basic needs.

    3. Dropouts are more likely to apply for and receive public assistance than graduates of high school;

    -Except I haven't. My son does have state provided health insurance (as well as the private insurance I provide him out of pocket) because he has a qualifying disability.

    4. Dropouts comprise a disproportionate percentage of the nation's prison and death row inmates. 82% of prisoners in America are high school dropouts;

    -Worst crime I have ever committed has been possession of marijuana, and I have never been caught, convicted, or imprisoned.

    5. School districts all over the country provide alternative programs for students who are not successful in the usual school setting. The best programs in the country are featured in our Model Programs Database.

    -Not sure this was the case 13-14 years ago. Maybe it was, but I was unaware of it and no one ever suggested it or brought it to my attention.

    I hope that addresses the issues you seem to be having with my dropping out of high school. I've never applied for a job or educational institution that has said my GED wasn't just as good. I'm just sorry you had to waste four years to get what is essentially the same bullshit piece of paper I got by taking a multiple choice test and writing a few essays.

    Everything about this and the last 5 posts before it was hilarious. I wish SP would have jumped in with something genuinely mean about period panties or self hating hookers though, then it would have been perfect.

    Someone stole about 150 dollars worth of Christmas decorations last night from my yard. People really piss me off.
