I have a different perspective now about guns after living in another country where school shootings—or any shootings for that matter—aren’t a thing. I get to send my three young children to school without worry that someone will walk in and shoot them because there are zero guns in this country. This is not to say mental health problems don’t exist everywhere, they definitely do. But those people don’t have access to the guns we have in the US to make such quick mass casualties..

The schools here have minimal security and the children flourish in their learning environment. It’s made me second guess returning to the US anytime soon unless serious gun control measures are implemented . This is a US only problem.. why? Because the US has the guns and/or doesn’t control them effectively.

Im not saying our police or military should not have them, I myself am in the military and trust me I understand the value of them. I also get that people have stopped shootings because a bystander was also armed and intervened, but.. What if we just stop the fire instead of saying we need the right to fight fire with fire? — all while this just continues to happen?

You realize your odds of being killed by gun violence is pretty fucking low right? Do you still go to the beach even though sharks exist?

I get the odds, but dropping my kid off at school the day after Uvalde was difficult.

The odds of hitting the lotto are astronomically low yet people still buy tickets. Sometimes they win!

The odds of kids being hurt or killed by a mass shooter in a school are much much lower than than the populous being enslaved by a tyrannical government.

The facts are, gun control doesn't really work, you have no way to enforce it and it's a right of citizens in a free republic. Other countries are not citizens in a free republic, most of them mentioned as being under gun control are subjects of a monarchy and all are subject to tyranny at the hands of an oppressive government. Many of them have experienced that tyranny directly in recent memory. Protests shut down in Canada and people's bank account frozen and money confiscated because they didn't like the protests. People in Great Britain locked in their homes without recourse over Covid, barely able to shop for food and prosecuted for social media posts that dispute the government. Australia locked it's people up for nearly 2 years, breaking up protests and again, locking people up over social media posts. Those are just some of the bastions of gun control that the Left touts.

People complain about how they can't trust the government and yet they want the government to take their weapons and protect them. The government can't stop guns, drugs, the slave trade and the theft of nuclear weapon secrets, there is no law saying police have any obligation to risk their lives to protect you yet they think that somehow kids will be safer if we let the government do more of what is is failing at now? Fucking retarded. We KNOW what works and we have seen it work time and again throughout this country and around the world yet the Left doesn't want to do that.

School hardening is one thing, doesn't have to look like a prison, Rhino Hyde the truck bed liner people have a spray on product that makes walls bullet proof and can come in nearly any color. A few feet either side of a door, sprayed on the back of a door, bingo, armored entry. Don't want that, could look like a prison. Metal detectors and limited entry to the schools to keep gangs out, nope, prison, but haul your ass to court or a substantial public government building and guess what? Metal detectors. Genuine armed guards with visible armor and weapons patrolling, nope, like prison, go to a European airport and it doesn't look like a prison but you won't find them fucking around if you start some shit. Israel does things like this and it has worked for them for nearly 50 years and they live in a war zone. But NOOOOOOO, Democrats have fought against every single attempt because they know it works and it doesn't help them ban guns. End gun free zones, nope, that's horrific to arm teachers and they couldn't stop a guy with an evil black rifle anyway. Wrong, arm volunteers, with training, with armor and like the woman a week ago, some shitbag with an AR starts shooting and they get a cap in their ass and kids get therapy instead of a coffin.

Kids die, it's a terrible thing. More die from auto accidents, poison, home accidents, abuse and so on yet the huge focus is always to push the tragedy in order to attempt more gun control. As I have said before, the only thing gun control does is disarm the decent citizen, embolden crime and make it possible for a tyrannical government to do what it wants without reservation. Over 120 million dead, including millions of children in the 20th century are not a coincidence.

We know what works, gun control isn't it so doing more of what isn't working is just dumb.

As Ben Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." And worse yet, we have seen this happen in modern society in the past 20 years but the idiot Left just keeps ignoring it because in the end, it is what they want because they think that they will be part of the upper level and immune to the predations of the evil they support.

There is no excuse in all of existence for free citizens to give up their rights to make others feel less afraid.

Do you honestly think it would affect their mental well bein in some negative manner? Also, you do realize whatever you are enjoying in another country is because the US carries the biggest stick in the world, right? We've spent 40 billion + on Ukraine, where we are arming civilians, which is exactly what you are trying to argue against being done in the US. You need to realize that the world is not a nice place and trying to make it what you consider a nice place is only going to lead to harm. You probably consider yourself an enlightened individual, but if you can't understand and accept human nature you are being willfully ignorant and are the furthest thing from enlightened.

Lol what? Your hero enacts federal restrictions and it's the Democrats that did it.

How this ties to being killed at school? Only you would know. Are you advocating for arming elementary school teachers, the vast majority of which have never even held a gun, all the while the cops simply stand outside and try to arrest parents?

But yes. Those pesky democrats indeed

So it is your contention that Democrats have never enacted any gun control measures?

This is literally what you just heavily implied, but I want to see you say it again so we can all have another laugh.

Way to ignore an entire post blasting your ignorant claims to pieces and attempt to distract by heavily misconstruing a single sentence. You get an F for effort.

I do think think the secondary impact to overly securing schools or regulating group gatherings at schools can negatively impact childrens mental state. It all depends how secure is secure enough? If you let kids go to recess or a sporting events why does it matter the kids have a hardened classroom? If someone is set on bringing an AR to do mass harm, they will find the most opportune time.

Yes. I am very aware other countries live under our security umbrella and are afforded their freedoms provided by our nations military.. I never said we should take weapons away from our military or police force. I do think regulation is essential for reasons others have already mentioned. I do think it is a damn near impossible task at this point to try and remove them since there are so many already in circulation.

As for Ukraine, the difference there is that they had a fraction of the military nor the strategic deterrence capes that we have in the US. The only chance for them to succeed is to arm everyone. Do you think the US will ever be invaded on our own turf? We dont have to do away with guns altogether, but strict regulation is crucial, imho.

I don’t think I’m enlightened, I try hard to hear and weigh both sides of the argument. I was just offering my new perspective after living here as I used to be more in line with your viewpoints before coming here.
