I’m with you feeling that way but I don’t think they should stoop to the level of barbarism that Hamas has shown. That’s not what civilized nations do and Israel holds legitimacy & authority purely for being a superior Western style nation in a region of savages. They just need to invade Gaza, kill any terrorists that puts up any kind of resistance, round up and march the remaining refugees off the Strip. Whatever happens to them when they arrive wherever isn’t on Israel.

This is a really complex situation, and simplistic stances aren't helpful.

It's not wrong to say you want freedom for the Palestinian people. They deserve it.

But Hamas is every bit as much an occupying force in the West Bank as Israel is: they took their own territories by force. They do not represent Palestine in any capacity official or unofficial, and they're not a bunch of scrappy freedom fighters. Their mission is the eradication of Israel. So those people who are standing and cheering Palestine on for fighting back are fucking idiots who have no idea what's going on.

But also, in the US we get a VERY incomplete narrative of the whole situation to the point where it's bordering on propaganda. Most people rushing out to say "I stand with Israel" also probably have no idea what's been going on.

Israel's occupation of Palestine has been brutal- especially the last two years. 260 Palestinians had already been killed by Israeli forces and settlers this year alone, including over 40 children, before this war started. Israel and Egypt control every inch of Palestine's borders, and Israel routinely cuts off power and water to Palestine. They'll embargo medicine for weeks at a time. They are STILL rapidly creating new settlements by bulldozing Palestinian homes and refugee camps. 64% of people in Palestine live with food insecurity and about 50% live in poverty.

Personally I stand against Hamas and with the Israeli and Palestinian PEOPLE. But there are no "good guys" in this war, in my opinion. Just countless Israeli and Palestinian victims.

Palestine isn’t a nation nor have they ever been one. Why is Israel expected to be tolerant of them when the surrounding Muslim nations are not except to use them as a political tool against Israel?

No matter how you feel, the situation with Gaza is fucked up and unsustainable. Israelis are no saints but they are by far the civilized rational ones in comparison to Palestinians, who overwhelmingly support Hamas.

Needless to say that I disagree with you. I support Israel kicking them out of Gaza once and for all, like they should have done back in the Six Day War. That’s the only way they can achieve a lasting peace.

Hamas is not a part of the Palestinian National Authority. (i.e. the State of Palestine) It's a terrorist group that used a mixture of politics and weapons to take over Gaza in the 90s (HUGE irony here) Gaza is a completely separate territory, and Hamas runs everything there. They co-exist peacefully with the PNA, but they are officially enemies.

As for Palestinian support of Hamas, it's not what you think it is. Even in Gaza, support is less than 60%. And they have something like 40% support in the West Bank.

And Israel very much created the circumstances that have allowed Hamas to thrive. Israel has been literally starving the Palestinian people for decades. Part of their occupation strategy has been to keep food, medicine, and fuel levels far below what the population needs- that is when they're allowing those things into Palestine at all. You want to know why people started supporting Hamas? Because Hamas was feeding them and giving them medicine and clothing. People literally depended on them for survival because of Israel. I don't think you quite get how horrific life has been under Israeli occupation.

The people in Gaza depend entirely on Hamas for everything, and people believe (very reasonably) that Hamas is the only thing keeping Israel from taking over Gaza and kicking all of the Palestinians out. (not that there's any place for them to go, by the way) Of course, Hamas also uses civilians as human shields. They're horrible. And that should tell you a lot about how dire things are for the people in Gaza.

I'll also remind you that Israel has absolutely no legal right to occupy any part of Palestine. No more than Russia had any right to annex and invade Ukraine. They're actually VERY similar situations in terms of the motivations for the occupying countries. Except Russia isn't forcing Ukraine to live in poverty for decades. And they're not killing Ukrainians in occupied areas to make room for more Russian settlements (at least not that I'm aware of).

The Palestinians aren't "savages"- they are real human beings in a horrific situation that they didn't ask for. Hamas is fucking evil, no doubt. They're an anti-semetic cancer whose main goal is to eradicate Israel.

But that doesn't make Israel the "good guy" here. Sometimes there are no good guys. Just bad guys and even worse ones.
