That's not how the English language works.

If I said "People on the PC are dumb" everyone would know I am calling everyone on the PC dumb. That's why I wouldn't say that, because not everyone on the PC is dumb. Instead I would say "Some people on the PC are dumb", or more specifically "Seran is dumb."

Just like if I said "people have hair", I wouldn't need to specify "ALL people have hair", because it's obvious I am referring to all people without having to specify "all" people.

Short summary and context: For many years, the State Fair of Texas had a no firearms policy unless you had a valid LTC (license to carry). If you presented a valid LTC at the entrance gate, a Dallas police officer would inspect and allow entry with conceal carry. Last year, some gangbangin’ thug teenager shot at some other teens. That has now prompted the State Fair to change policy and say no guns including LTC holders, even though it wasn’t a legal responsible citizen but a criminal that caused last year’s issue.

Their loss. I despise going to the State Fair. I suffer through it because I have kids that enjoy it and I try to be a good dad. It’s too crowded & too damn expensive. This year my family won’t be going though. I support our police, but ultimately I am responsible for my family’s safety. They cannot 100% guarantee there will not be something like last year where a thug snuck in a gun, and this new policy would restrict my effectiveness to respond to a deadly threat. Sucks for my 10 year old daughters, but we’ll find something else.

I wrote to my mayor, council person, and state representative my grievance and urged them to take action to revert the State Fair of Texas firearm policy & allow LTC holders to conceal carry. Hope the true native Texans give the State Fair the Bud Light treatment.

In addition, our police chief has been vocal about not allowing anyone (including responsible LTC holders) carry a firearm on fair grounds since the fuckup that occurred last year. Our mayor can do something about that if he acts.

Last, I do realize writing a letter (actually submitted it online) to elected officials is old school and likely won’t do jack shit. It’s more for me than anyone else, and an appropriate healthy way to express my grievance.

Printing a letter on paper and mailing it is still highly effective, probably more effective today than years ago when everybody wrote letters. Be aware that it could become a public document under your state laws.

Edit: I typically don’t go to ATT stadium. Assessing the risk level of that stadium vs the fair grounds, I see it a little different as well. I’m not sure if you are familiar with the area, but Fair Park is in a sketchy part of Dallas. It’s also a huge amount of space in there…bigger than Six Flags. It’s easy to sneak into Fair Park. I personally know this because I snuck into the Warp Tour concert there circa 2001. Last, ATT stadium has an economic barrier to entry to be in there. At the State Fair you got people from all walks of life, to include ghetto ass punk teenagers, like the one who they arrested last year for shooting at someone.

Honestly, the State Fair of Louisiana has low attendance because it is fucking dangerous, people break into cars a lot, and it is just overpriced and shoddy. Someone literally stole a fucking helicopter from the Louisiana State Fair. Texas has multiple better theme parks that are permanent anyways. I don't know why I'd ever go to the Texas State Fair if I can go to a Six Flags or the equivalent.

Maybe it won’t. We’ll see. It dropped last year after that shooting. I get they need to make it safe, but that particular change doesn’t help them achieve that.

They hand out free tickets to our State Fair to every public elementary school kid in Dallas. Reason to go to that over say Six Flags is you have generations of Texans that go for family memories and such. It also helps support Texas instead of a corporation like Six Flags. Just a different vibe.

Word. I googled LEOSA but had never heard of that until you mentioned it. Not legally speaking, but from a practical real world sense I see no real difference between retired LEO and an LTC holder. They are both private individuals that have had extensive background checks and both have passed at least minimal standards for firearm competency.

The latest is the State AG Ken Paxton is threatening legal action citing that Texas law states LTC holders cannot be restricted from carrying on government owned property except in specific named exempt places as outlined in the penal code. State Fair of Texas says they are exempt as a non profit leasing the government owned property pointing to some other legislation. I dunno…not a lawyer and we’ll see how that plays out.

Practically the change is just dumb. We have constitutional carry which means you do not need a license to carry. You may open carry or conceal carry. A business or private ownership must post signage if they want to prohibit either conceal carry or open carry on their property.

The difference is, LEOSA is a Federal Law and LTC varies by state, with some being will issue and some being may issue.

I knew a few people in California that became reserve deputies in one of the counties specifically so they could concealed carry, because that license is a pain in the ass to get there.

During the pandemic, there were shortages on select items due to supply chain issues. Grocery store chains like Kroger raised prices during that time beyond inflation as they were flying off the shelf.

However you feel about that and whether you call that price gouging, that is not the issue we face today. Inflation has had a real and lasting impact on grocery items. Profit margins on those items are back down to normal levels. Pointing to the grocery store chains and placing blame on them for “corporate greed” is disingenuous. They are in business to make a profit, and there is plenty of competition. Prices have gone up because their costs have gone up.

No, I don’t want that. Price controls = shortages. If you force grocery stores to sell food items at minimal or below profit margins, they won’t be motivated to sell us those goods nor farmers produce them. We’ll just be trading high grocery store prices for long lines and shortages like we have seen with every communist / socialist/ command economy that has ever tried implementing those controls.

A good start to solving the problem would be for the government to stop spending (wasting) so much money which has devalued our currency. There is more we can do like driving down the cost on energy & incentivizing domestic oil production, but we should start by stopping the endless wasteful spending that the Biden admin has continued long past the Covid epidemic.
