I don't think any reasonable person, regardless of party affiliation, has been saying there is no such thing as voter fraud. The issue is how much fraud there is and what reasonable steps should be taken in response.

As for vote suppression, I believe both major parties have done it and will continue to attempt it. We can certainly discuss which party has made stronger efforts to do so, but there are no innocent parties here.

Either there is an issue with the voting, given how the Republican was winning the vote count and it wasn't until weeks later that every Democrat was able to pull off the win.. or something after the election took place is counting up votes where a majority of them are Democrat votes.

Republicans in his district tend to vote early and the democrats tended to vote late or via absentee or mail in, so that is why Republicans always have a big jump at the beginning. It wasn't due to recounts that the Democrats won, it was just the later votes getting added in.

"Ugh. I was there. In the district. Working several races.

1) AP got it wrong. 100% of precincts had not reported in on election night. In fact, almost every news source called nearly every race in the 39th and 49th districts too close to call for a week after Election Night.

2) In California, nearly everyone can vote by mail at any time, and as long as the ballot is postmarked by Election Day, it is still valid. This means voters can mail in a ballot on Election Day and that ballot likely won’t get counted for-you guessed it, a week and a half.

3) Republicans usually vote early or on time. Democrats tend to procrastinate.

4) There wasn’t a recount in Young Kim’s district.

5) It sucks. It’s stupid. But it happened. And it is not outside the realm of possibility.

So since I was there, and I worked it, and I saw it first hand, those are my thoughts."

Yeah this is all correct. (Though, interestingly enough, in other states it's often the opposite in terms of whose votes get in when)

And we may as well just get used to it. Voting by mail is becoming more and more popular, which not only means that the timeline for knowing how these races are going is getting extended, but it's also harder and harder to predict how many ballots we'll actually get.

I've said before that voter fraud is far more likely with absentee ballots/early voting, because you can commit it in the comfort of your own home. What they suspect happened here it's not really voter fraud, it's vote theft. I wonder what the penalty for stealing ballots is?

As an interesting side note, there's another, much smaller contested race in Iowa, where election officials refused to count 35 ballots in a state election only separated by 9 votes, because they were absentee but didn't have post marks. They did however have postal bar codes, which contain the same information, and are specifically allowed as evidence of mail in date. So says a judge, and those votes will now be counted.

Of course they're not the same thing, you just explained the difference. But it's still voter fraud. Voter fraud encompasses more than just filling out a ballot.

Any election where the winner won by less than 100 votes should be settled via dueling in the streets.

I think they know impeachment of a sitting president without GOP support is a non-starter. The best they can hope for is 1)make Trump's life difficult/unpleasant and 2)stall the GOP as much as possible for the next two years while praying that by some miracle whatever loser emerges from their clowncar of 2020 hopefuls manages to pull off the W.

I doubt they'll pass any impeachment through the House unless they knew it would be successful in the Senate. It is posturing and playing to their base. And I bet none of them want Mike Pence in there either.

Depending on Mueller's report- they may not actually have a choice. The Dems would prefer not to impeach- they'd rather use the 2020 election to take care of this. But the report may very well force their hands.

There's likely no version of this report that's not damning. It's just going to be a question of how damning.

Nothing that's been made public yet has triggered any serious talk of impeachment so it would have to be something new and exceptionally damning to gain any bipartisan legs.

If the report comes out with a clear case of obstruction, they have no choice. They can't let a sitting President off the hook after something like that. It sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

Just as in a court of law, the prosecution makes a case. The report is the prosecution's case. It doesn't mean it is true. The Senate decides if they believe it to be factual.

The thing with Lewinsky is she likely didn't turn on him because there was some, well... pressure applied. The Clinton Machine is scary when it wants to be, which unfortunately doesn't equate to capable at winning general elections.

He didn't just lie, he took advantage of a position of power (there's not much more powerful position to have than leader of the free world) and has been a pest for decades. He did get a few penalties from it. Some fines and the ability to practice law in Arkansas was suspended. He hasn't tried to get reinstated though.
