It's fine. I understand that you have some sort of trouble with the idea of taxes helping others. I don't. If I thought of more positive areas offhand I would have added them.

As to what Atlanteax said the "betterness" of privatized services is usually highly debatable and primarily features profits for the private companies.

The best highways, continuing his example, are indeed typically the product of government and private company partnerships, but they can't be built everywhere. We also want to be really wary of transportation monopolies.

I've never heard of a basic American principle is that the reason we pay taxes is to help others succeed.
