[Ta'Illistim, Hanging Gardens]
Although the floating platform is suspended well above the ground below, it overflows with abundant plant life. The edges of the dais are brimming with delicate white queen's lace, dark lavender, fragrant rosemary and a variety of other colorful flora. Thick grass underfoot provides an enticingly peaceful resting spot. A thin silk canopy is rolled back to permit an unobstructed view of the starry night sky. You also see the Ana disk, a green-eyed white cat that is sitting, some manna bread, a black cat that is sitting, a long-tongued pygmy bat, a large faenor-chased barrel, a richly finished wooden bench with some stuff on it and a glaesine arch.

Rofl. Panteloons.. haha.

One of my favorite bits of Teeoncy wit.

[Aqueduct]
A side tunnel heads east off the north/south aqueduct. The area is unnervingly quiet. The only sounds are those produced by the lapping of the water against the tunnel sides and those produced by interlopers from outside. Even the lapping, though, is an unnatural consequence of the invasion by those who do not belong here. The area was totally quiet before the intruders arrived, and it will become totally quiet again once they leave. You also see a gremlock, a gnarled being that appears dead, the Dessedemona disk, the Teeoncy disk, a festering taint and a scratched bracelet.
Also here: a stunned Dessedemona, Teeoncy

Crushing blow crumples the festering taint's nose!
The festering taint is stunned!

A void rips open in the area, directly above Teeoncy!
Teeoncy is sucked into the void!
Rather abrupt decompression causes Teeoncy to explode!
Billions and billions of tiny bits of flesh shower everything.
Quite severely dead.
* Teeoncy drops dead at your feet!

The glowing specks of energy surrounding Teeoncy suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
Teeoncy seems a bit less imposing.
The light blue glow leaves Teeoncy.
The silvery luminescence fades from around Teeoncy.
The dim aura fades from around Teeoncy.
Everything in the room seemed to stay in place. The void disappears without further incident.

On a side note, I'd thought about reactivating my mother's empath. She's gotten to where she could play, I think. She wouldn't be as fast as she once was, but she might be able to enjoy the game, at least. I'd thought to reactivate the empath and level her up so mom wouldn't have to do much but roleplay, which is what she loved the most. I've never played an empath, so it would be a challenge for me, but...well, she did love the game and I'd like to see her get that joy back.

Asha

That would be awesome. I hope you do come back even if it's just to help out your mother.

Hmm, I guess they're shooting themselves in the foot then.
Maybe the problem is they have no definate proof people will return once they've got rid of the tools. Espeially since there's more competition now for MMORPGs than ever.
I want them gone too, btw.

HarmNone
08-06-2006, 10:42 AM
I think the reason the tools come to GemStone is because they can be really annoying, which is what they want to do. In most of the MMORPGs, there are bigger, badder tools than they are, so they don't stand out. GemStone, being text-based, doesn't attract (or hold) the kind of players that are attracted to MMORPGs, for the most part. There are a few exceptions, but they're generally people looking for both an opportunity to roleplay and an opportunity to engage in open PvP. They like both. These types usually aren't tools in a text-based game (unless they forget where they are ;) ).

The reason I decided against reactivating the account was because of type of thing seen in that ridiculous interchange between two total idiots. I know my mother would hate that, and it's no fun to have to keep running from place to place just to avoid the freaking tools. It's just not worth it.

Asha

I agree wholeheartedly, David. When, and if, Simu finally realizes that they are a niche game that appeals to a specific group of people who will be VERY loyal if their needs are met, they might just get something going. However, to show people like me that they have come to this realization, they'll have to start using HMP the way it was designed to be used...to get rid of the assholes. While there are Clearas, and Gracys, and Arionds, and all the rest, it's pretty obvious they haven't reached that conclusion yet.

I understand what you're saying, Stray, and I agree for the most part. However, people like Cleara are Reported constantly. Yet, there she is and she hasn't changed anything. Same goes for Gracy. They cause chaos, people complain, nothing is done. It might take a bit of effort from the GMs to watch these people and catch them at their idiocy, but I think it would be worth it in the end. Hell, look at the problems Seany causes, and he returns like the bad penny...again, and again, and again. He's not hard to spot. Get rid of his ass!

Dunno, after a two-year absence I've found that the number of really disruptive players has gone down significantly. Coinner, Michaelous, Warclaidhm, Dionisius, etc., they are all gone. Could be because Death's Sting has finally put some teeth into dying 30 times in a row. Now if the GMs could simply turn a blind eye to the killing of bad RPs on sight perhaps we could make a dent in the kind of people you're talking about.

There was a time when player policing of imbeciles was the norm. Of course, at that time, we didn't have the ratio of idiots to sentient beings we apparently have now. Those bent on griefing learned pretty damned quickly that they wouldn't be tolerated. They either chnaged, or left.

Now, you have to Assist/Report these incidents and hope that somebody will care enough to do something about it. Knowing that the ones who are mentioned regularly here have been Reported many, many times, it's pretty obvious that there's no real consequence to being an ass.

If the extra $ each month isn't a huge factor, you could always start an emapth in Plat, HarmNone. I haven't encountered anyone that's hard to deal with yet, and with the 3 month free trial, there are a decent amount of people in game usually.
Just a thought, I know some people can't stand Plat, but it's what keeps me a Simu customer, at this point.

The extra cost wouldn't be a consideration at all. However, mother was very attached to the character she played. She put a lot into that character, and worked hard to help the character grow into who she was. It would also take me a lot less time to get her existing character (83 or 84 at the time she left before GSIV) up close to cap than it would to get a new character far enough that she wouldn't need to worry about leveling at all. She never cared about levels, but it's important to be able to stay current with your peers if you hope to be able to play off continuous roleplay.

If it were possible to move an existing character to Platinum, I'd really consider it. In fact, I'd probably jump at the chance.

He went to Germany, and seeing as how he drafted THE BILLS DEFENSE in the second round, he figured he was screwed in our league.

That being said, Alok needs to revamp his team or he's going to be winless.

It is becoming a disease. I say we form a committee to stamp out the disease. First, we can have a meeting to decide what the first meeting should talk about. Then have an In Progress Review (IPR) to see where we are at for the first meeting, to ensure that we are all on track. Next, we can call up some famous people to talk about it publicaly on the news channels and form protest groups.

Or, we can be like Republicans and just blast the shit out of them.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone saying, "...". It happens in movies (subtitles), it happens in video games, it happens in comic strips. If you had any intelligence at all, you would realize my character isn't actually saying anything. Your character isn't seeing mine say, "...". YOU, however, the retarded player, can actually see it. Wait, wait, I'm sorry. Do you even PLAY Gemstone anymore? I'll ALWAYS use "..." over a verb that expresses the 'same' thing. Always.

You're similar to people that criticize others for not spelling correctly in the game. Although I am not really taking sides, but a misspelling is not as critical IG. If you were to say it out loud, and it sounded the same, then you would hear it the same IG. Everyone has made a keystroke error before. Everyone has been typing faster then they think and may have typed week instead of weak. It sounds the same, so what the hell is the difference. Use it in context, not by it's spelling.

CrystalTears
11-30-2006, 04:38 PM
In response to Goretawn, I don't mind the occasional misspelling. It happens and I don't care about that. But I'm not the only one who has problems with people who speak in |337 in the game, or just in a complete mess when there is no need to. It's annoying.

It's like reading a novel and most of it being misspelled. I'll still get the gist of it but it will bother me nevertheless.

Someone talking to me about lack of imagination when he can't even make up his own name and pulls it out of a video game gets ignored after a while.

Impressive that you know where the name Jenovadeath originates from, truly. What the FUCK does my name have to do with the price of tea in China? Stop being so feckin' obtuse. Again, you're picking at OOC things -- this is probably why you don't play Gemstone anymore (see also: you're retarded).

I remember trying to create a character in 1997. I tried every name imaginable that I could think of. NOTHING would work. I looked to the right of me and there sat my Final Fantasy 7 strategy guide. I opened up to the back where the bestiary was and randomly picked a name: Jenovadeath. I did the same thing for my last name: Nattak. Both are bosses in the game FF7, which is how I constructed my name. But again, what the HELL does that have to do with ANYTHING? You're complaining about my ROLEPLAYING, remember? Not my OOC mannerisms. If you looked at the names from an OOC perspective in Gemstone, 80% of the population would be 'ignored', as you stated so cleverly.

Seriously, stop. Just stop.

It's a stupid, uncreative thing to do in a roleplaying game. There are plenty of verbs and actions you could do to portray your character's feelings, other than using punctuation.

I, at the bare minimum, would not, IC, know what "pealsed" is. I imagine, phonetically, that my character would recognize the other misspellings are, but that one, no. I would never point it out, though, unless it was chronic beyond all belief.

And the point I was trying to make is THINKing "...". Since no one can see your "stunned, blank" face on the fucking thought net.
