I think Tabor's problem is he doesn't have enough athletic activity in his life. That's right, a guy like him should get outside more and run some laps with the team instead of rotting his brain memorizing big terms that translate to such words as "liver" and "artery." My major(s) are Entomology SLASH Pre-med. You can't have 'pre-med' as a major, just as you can't essentially be 'pre-vet'. If you do not complete the requirements, there is no 'pre-med' or 'pre-vet' degrees. One must have a fallback major, and in my case, it's Entomology in the College of Agriculture.

My friend was in the College of Liberal Arts and got into Medical school. Being in the college of Agriculture means jack shit. It's evident you've never attended college, or you'd know that one must not just be in the "College of Science' to obtain the pre-med corriculum.

Yes, pre-med is a curriculum and not a degree. That your friend's degree was an LA degree is no surprise since the pre-med program in any reputable college is through the college of Liberal Arts and Science.

I'm still a bit unclear as to how entomology is "pre-med." I'm still working on my BA, so I guess by your definition I could be pre-med, pre-law or whatever the fuck I want to. Tabor, some questions that I just have from reading what you've been posting:

What are the courses you've been taking that your univesity requires in order to graduate with a degree in entomology? Were you going for your B.A. or B.S.? I attend a ridiculously L.A. SUNY and it's pretty bio savvy. I've never heard of a major as specific as yours is. I've known other undergrads from SUNYs and just from talking to bio and chem majors at Stony Brook, Binghamton and one at New Paultz, I seriously have never heard of a major that is so refined, at least in its title. I really don't understand how it can be a fallback major like you said. I've always thought of a fallback major to be something extremely general that's in line with prerequisites and cores. If I stopped the bio or pre-med curriculum, I could still eventually manage a psych major, without having to break too serious of a sweat. I'm sure it's not unheard of, but I've never heard of anybody who's switched out of, say, chemistry and then done biochemistry, or wanting to graduate sooner so they forfeit bio while still being able to major in immu.

I didn't really understand what you meant when you said that you had taken 19 hours of health and biology. I'm guessing you must have switched your major over summer break last year and sat in on a few lectures prior to that..? 19 hours is essentially one week of general bio and chem classes combined :?: I'm a little confused about what you meant.

Also, if your fallback major is entomology and you have a niche for it like you've been talking about, I'm just very curious as to the practical applications of being so keenly focused on it if you really want to practice surgery in the field of medicine?

I'm bio and pre-med and I want to learn more about the science involved in establishing yourself in the field. Thanks.

Tabor, some questions that I just have from reading what you've been posting:

What are the courses you've been taking that your univesity requires in order to graduate with a degree in entomology? Were you going for your B.A. or B.S.? I attend a ridiculously L.A. SUNY and it's pretty bio savvy. I've never heard of a major as specific as yours is. I've known other undergrads from SUNYs and just from talking to bio and chem majors at Stony Brook, Binghamton and one at New Paultz, I seriously have never heard of a major that is so refined, at least in its title. I really don't understand how it can be a fallback major like you said. I've always thought of a fallback major to be something extremely general that's in line with prerequisites and cores. If I stopped the bio or pre-med curriculum, I could still eventually manage a psych major, without having to break too serious of a sweat. I'm sure it's not unheard of, but I've never heard of anybody who's switched out of, say, chemistry and then done biochemistry, or wanting to graduate sooner so they forfeit bio while still being able to major in immu.

I didn't really understand what you meant when you said that you had taken 19 hours of health and biology. I'm guessing you must have switched your major over summer break last year and sat in on a few lectures prior to that..? 19 hours is essentially one week of general bio and chem classes combined :?: I'm a little confused about what you meant.

Also, if your fallback major is entomology and you have a niche for it like you've been talking about, I'm just very curious as to the practical applications of being so keenly focused on it if you really want to practice surgery in the field of medicine?

I'm bio and pre-med and I want to learn more about the science involved in establishing yourself in the field. Thanks.

The last semester I took, I had the following classes:

Organic Chemistry Laboratory
Insect Behavior
Spider Biology
Human Anatomy/Physiology
Medical and Veterinary Entomology
Anthropology
Organic Chemistry

I typically take 18 to 21 credit hours, and I maintain a 3.8 GPA. I merely had to complete my Organic Chemistry course to finish the sub-par requirements to get into the 6 year medical program in Ireland.

I'm going for a B.S. I didn't take any languages in college, though I can speek German fluently, and some Gaelic.

Good heavens, Entomology revels around the medical scene more than you could imagine. Most doctors are absolutely clueless when it comes to foreign arthropod-borne diseases (save for West Nile Virus, and a few other common ones). Almost every course I've taken from the Entomology major is related to the medical field.
