During this period, international demographic changes weakened the political clout of labor unions, which supported protectionism, to the point that they were ineffective. Perhaps Trump's tariff stance is a leading indicator.

Protectionism is the purposeful stifling of competition. In the short run, it can protect threatened industries. In the long run, it slows innovation, limits consumer choices and increases consumer prices.
When you start your "adult life", let us know.

Living in your mommy's basement because you are too scared to venture out into the world is not an "adult life" no matter how much your mommy calls you a big boy now.

Also, I was not for NAFTA. It was a shitty deal for America and remember when Perot said you would hear a giant sucking sound going south... he was spot on.

As far as tariffs go, it's obvious you have no idea what they are used for. Let's wait until President Trump takes office and see what actually happens with these tariff discussions.

In the meanwhile, maybe stay under your bed with your 13 N95 masks on.

Seems to me that you are a protectionist for gang violence, fentanyl, human trafficking, and sex slaves. Unfortunately for you, America voted that will no longer be tolerated.

Did I anywhere say I was for or against it? I was explaining it, because you are apparently too stupid to know how tariffs are meant to accomplish their purpose.

Solkern sure has been quiet lately after he embarrassed himself for the millionth time claiming the tariffs would go through and US consumers would simply eat the cost and nothing else changes.

Now we have Canada and Mexico practically fighting each other to prove they are the better child to their US daddy.

Soykern could have been the next champion.. he just was lazy.

He has the gift of mental retardation, just not the drive or gumption.

I should make a timeline of Trump's many charges and retreats on tariffs. Since I know a lot of smart people read my posts, I'll throw out the idea and wait to see if anybody does it for me.

Prior to Trump taking office in January, what tariffs did Canada and Mexico have on US products?

I'm not taking research assignments. You could Google it, or you could ask the guy who negotiated those agreements..
