I wonder what he's doing right now? I'm imaging him strolling on the boardwalk wearing Ray-Bans and Skechers, savoring an ice cream cone. I see people waving to him through the protective ring of Secret Service agents. The waving onlookers are thanking him for lowering gas prices and creating jobs. Is he basking in their praise? No, he can spare no attention for frivolous praise. Instead, the Chief Executive's thoughts are evenly split between the vanilla ice cream and peace in the Middle East. Those things have a lot in common. Pursuing either of them too quickly is bound to cause headaches, but opportunities will melt away if there is excessive delay. He'll need to remember that for a speech. President Eisenhower said the way to solve an unsolvable problem is to make the problem bigger. Time to double back for a second scoop.
