My favorite part of this was how McCarthy sucked up to the Democrats for the passage of the stopgap spending measure... then went on the Sunday shows to say how the Democrats were standing in the way to get it passed. Democrats didn't like how he handled it.. and voted to oust him.
Agreed. That’s why I say Trump is the Speaker that House Democrats deserve.

Can you imagine all the salty tears? That might put some of them over the edge.

NATO comes to mind, South Korea, Israel, Japan and dozens of others as well. They're actual allies, while Trump tried & failed to cozy up to dictators in enemy states in a misguided attempt to woo them over with his celebrity.

The Abraham Accords were certainly an accomplishment.. by Israel. If you think Trump deserves a peace prize, I'd clarify you don't win a Nobel for being uninvolved. 'Not meddling in other's accomplishments' isn't a category.

Meanwhile, trying to rattle our participation in NATO, withdrawing from cooperation with the WHO? That's a Trump temper tantrum diplomacy at it's finest.

While I am genuinely exhausted with the Democrats being the ones expected to jump in and actually govern when the GOP falls into shambles, I am equally exhausted with the increasing Democratic tolerance for letting our country head to the brink before stepping in and doing something about it. Because these aren't "Republican" problems- they're American problems.

Having said that, I get why they didn't step in and save McCarthy. They weren't mad about him going on air and saying they were the ones blocking passage of the CR (I mean, that's not what they were primarily mad about) they were mad at him once again making deals he had no intention of honoring- this time in the form of a standalone Ukraine funding vote he had promised. And the idiot got up on TV and told everyone that he would give the Democrats zero concessions for supporting his bid as Speaker. This is a topic that has been danced around a lot in the media and among his peers, but McCarthy has a reputation for being genuinely stupid. We saw a lot of that on display over the last few days.

And McCarthy's speakership was going to be increasingly unstable and untenable even if he did survive this last round. That, plus the fact that McCarthy has done some genuinely bad things for the country in capitulation to his most extreme flank, it's hard to imagine someone else being worse for Democrats and the country. So I think Democrats figured things could only go up from here, and that they weren't actually going to be sparing the nation this chaos. Simply delaying it.

Of course, then Jim Jordan raised his hand. Oh and we've got to fund the damn government in fewer than 45 days.

So here we are, rushing towards the brink again. And the Democrats are nowhere to be found and won't be until the last minute.

McCarthy is from Bakersfield CA, what precisely do you expect from a man where there is as much meth and ag chemicals in the water as there is fluoride.

Oh hi. Guess we had enough Trump drama for you to grace us with your presence.

I obviously don’t share your opinion in regard to the Democrat Party being the saviors & adults expected to govern, but I can sympathize with that tired feeling. Democrats fall in line when they need to and Republicans can’t when they need to.

Didn’t step in to save?? Are you being serious right now? They voted with the so called Freedom Caucus (or whatever you wish to label Gaetz and that small minority of the House Republicans) to oust him from Speaker. That’s completely disingenuous for you to say save. They sided with the most conservative right wing of Republicans to put a knife in his back. There is a distinct difference between saving and choosing not to vote that way for whatever imaginary petty grievance.

I agree McCarthy is stupid. He is a lot smarter than many representatives, but let’s agree the bar is set real low with that standard. Thing is my position on the budget, term limits, and a couple other things align with Gaetz… but that was incredibly selfish of him. We have a Senate controlled by Democrats and Joe Biden is our President. Best House Republicans can do without shutting down the government is to make modest budget cuts, put the bill on the Senate floor, and put the heat on Democrats to pass it or answer to the American people why they allowed a shutdown. That would be smart. Unfortunately that didn’t happen thanks to the unholy bipartisan alliance, and here we are. Back to McCarthy though, and understand I don’t like him as I tell you this, but his Speakership was totally tenable if Dems didn’t go along with that. They & the Gaetz crew made it so.

So here we are, and 45 days does come fast. I agree it’s just tiresome and shitty for America. See you around next time you pop in.

McCarthy and that little chode McHenry kicking Pelosi out of her office was pretty childish. McHenry's little temper tantrum with the gavel was also pretty hilarious.

The fact that she still had that hideaway speaks to why McCarthy had to go.
