Truancy and attendance were a thing when I graduated in high school in 03 I ended up paying like 500$ in fines and my dad paid 500$ in fines(i paid 1000$) in fines for skipping school. It had nothing to do with grades they just needed your ass in the chair for the money.

That being said when they had you grade your peers math or read the person next to you essay in a pass back or right fashion. There were a lot of idiots then too.
