I was there with my wife and kids January of 2018.

The kids enjoyed stuff, but a lot of things changed since the wife and I had been there in 2006 (I think that was the year) and even more so since I went when I was little back in '88.

When I was 8, the one thing I really remember was dinner with the characters. The wife thought I was silly and thought it was stupid, but when we went there in '06 or so, she surprised me with letting me know she booked a dinner with the characters for us. She thought it was going to be dumb, but she really enjoyed it. The characters had banter between each other, they interacted with all the guests (mostly the kids), did silly antics and made the atmosphere very enjoyable. The food was really good, too. It was at a high rated restaurant and it was a 5 course meal. The wife enjoyed it more than she thought she would have and we were both excited to take the our kids when we went as a family.

Dinner with the characters is no longer in a quality sit down restaurant, they're only held in a buffet style place. The food sucked, you can get better food at Kwik Trip gas stations. The characters only walked around and did pictures with the kids, they didn't interact with each other doing silly antics....just meandered around between tables, took a lot of pictures and vanished. It was a huge disappointment to my wife and me, but my kids only being 5 and 9 at the time, they thought it was great.

One park we got some beverages at a food stand, a soft pretzel and some other snack - cost was almost $60. I'm glad I got my kids out there so they could experience things, but with how fucking expensive it was that was a one time thing. I'll never be back, especially since I've learned they dropped the Fast Pass (when we went we could setup times to use the Fast Pass for a handful of rides a day) and picked up some other program where you pay extra to book "Fast Pass" type slots. Already paying to get into the park, now you can pay more to bypass lines....that's just greedy as fuck.

My brother is on the fence about dropping Disney+ due to all this shit going on. I told him he should since there's not much on there worth watching.

I was like 8 (would have been 91) when I was there last and don’t remember much on the character dinners. Our dinner experiences were exactly as you described though. My kids did love it but I thought it sucked.

What we did, pro tip, and I’ll admit this is a morally questionable…my kids are legit diagnosed with ADHD. They get it from me. You can talk to park services and say your kid has a medical condition where they are unable to wait in long lines. They give you something like a Fast Pass for that. I wasn’t lying when i said the lines were ridiculously long but we did avoid that part. The park was just so crowded, the service sucked, and everything was super expensive for to me what was a subpar experience. I never want to go back. It’s for the kids, and my wife wanted to go. I’m just a dad trying to give the kids a good childhood and what I guess my wife missed out when she was a child…but fuck that place is such a rip off.

The state House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a land use bill, in a 75-34 vote, that would essentially invalidate Disney’s agreement with the Reedy Creek Improvement District in February, when the special district was still under the company’s control. The bill will have a final Senate before going to DeSantis for his signature.

This is unconstitutional. Article 1 Section 10. "No State shall ... pass any ... Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts." To make matters worse for the GOP, this is a contract between Disney and Reedy Creek, not Disney and the State of Florida.
Government has no business interfering with a legal contract between 2 private parties.

If this passes, it’ll be destroyed in court.

Hardly surprised, Florida has literally thrown the entirety of the First Amendment out the window. When their attempt to legislate a 'redo' of their attempt to assert a tribunal over the administration of Walt Disney World gets challenged in court, and it will, they'll have to show a legitimate public purpose to overcome the Contracts Clause of the First Amendment. DeSantis is going to fall flat when his team tries to argue political retribution as an execution of the public charge.
