Thread: Russia Just Invaded Ukraine

This Axios article says that Republicans are about to flip positions on Ukraine. You can already see it happening in this forum.

By the numbers: Recent polls have shown there's still widespread support among Americans for aiding and arming Ukraine, but there's been a decline in pro-Ukraine sentiment among Republicans in recent months.

The bottom line: If DeSantis continues to break from the party's hawkish line, GOP public opinion could move accordingly in that direction — as the partisan incentives for breaking with Biden intensify.

Ukraine on Friday banned the activities of religious organizations “affiliated with centers of influence” in Russia

Seriously, thanks for proving yourself wrong and linking an article that verifies what I said is true.

Let me know when you find an article that states Ukraine banned the Russian orthodox religion, and they are committing religious persecution. Here’s another hint, you won’t find any.

I personally haven't flipped on anything. I've always been against the war, and against us being involved.

I hate the Russkies as much as the next red-blooded American, but I never consented to a blank check for “however long it takes”. Ukraine is not worthy of Lend-Lease 2.0, nor a proxy war with China, nor WW3. I prefer my children do not inherit a post nuclear Armageddon world for the benefit of our defense industry.

I am just wondering when we will send Special Forces "Advisers" to help train and equip the local troops and have them working out of forward firebases where we provide armillary support so they can "Observe" from helicopter and not "get involved" while we spray the countryside with Roundup to keep the enemy from hiding in the foliage then go into a hot war, win it and then have Biden fuck the indigenous people by killing our support of the installed government after we pull our military out and abandon them. Oh, wait, that was Vietnam.

Or maybe we go in hot under a kind of false pretense (though not really cause we did find chemical weapons and some were used on our troops but it was not wide spread and it was covered up) win the war, twice, rebuild the country, establish a government, abandon them under another administration, have loads of the country taken back by the enemy and loads of equipment destroyed by that enemy, go in again and crush them only to waffle around now with no real goals, strategy and waffling support. Oh, wait, that's Iraq.

Are we going to be supporting a Democratic administration sitting on a strategic asset, equip them with all the latest and greatest military equipment, push for BS social reforms and "tolerance" of dissidents then abandon them when the radical Islamic rebels do an uprising and threaten to crust the government allowing the radicals to murder uncounted numbers, establish the worlds most radical and dangerous state sponsor of terrorism, institute basic slavery for women and commit human rights abuses wholesale while exporting their radical Islam around the world to lead to the deaths of uncounted numbers in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and beyond thus guaranteeing the modern world a blight of radical, violent and destructive Islamists all in the name of "progressivism?" Nope, that was Iran.

Or maybe where we pay for a shadow war, win, dislike the natives that won, go in hot, take over and rebuild the country while letting the enemy escape into neighboring "friendly" countries to hide, then pull out after rebuilding the country, their society and then abandon Americans in the country when we bungle the withdrawal and stand by as billions in equipment and arms are turned over to the enemy to again be used to slaughter any moderates, return women to chattel slavery and start the human rights abuses yet again and yet again wasting American money and blood? Nope, that's Afghanistan.

The lessons of history are plain. Democrats get into wars, the fuck things up, abandon our allies and make the situation worse in pretty much every way possible. Why you may ask, well, to pay off their defense contractor buddies so the buddies can contribute to them and make them wealthy because in the end, they can't stand paying off defense contractors for domestic security because "Capitalism Unfair" and if the US is strong and the people are free, they can't be controlled.

So which of the above scenarios is it going to be this time?

Not saying you're wrong, but I've not heard that before. Are you talking about estimated future costs or costs already incurred? Or are you including secondary economic effects, such as increased energy and food costs?

I refer you to my prior posts on the cost of Ukraine vs. Afghanistan, in this very thread.

Hi, yeah, you're wrong. $2.3 trillion as of the time of the study in 2021 is the direct cost of the operations in Afghanistan. I'm sure you're going to pull some dumb ass indirect cost bullshit in the future, as if a 20 year war in Afganistan didn't have indirect economic costs. But if you can show $2.3 trillion in direct expenditures by the US toward the war between Ukraine and Russia, I'd be surprised.
