The latest from the pentagon is that they did not detect them and only just recently learned about them. How did they just recently learn about alleged Chinese Spy Balloons that flew over 3x during the Trump administration? We don’t know and they haven’t said. We can deduct either two possibilities though:

1) What the pentagon is saying is true and there was a self admitted “domain awareness gap” (AKA our military surveillance fucked up & they are incompetent)
2) They are lying about prior Chinese Spy Balloons during the Trump admin for political reasons, and now lying further when multiple sources came out to say it simply didn’t happen or they were not brief after the initial statement that it happened three times under Trump.

I’m more inclined to think it’s #2 at this point as they have a track record of lying to the American public, but in either scenario the Trump administration had 0 knowledge about any prior Chinese spy balloons entering our airspace.

tldr; No matter what Trump's not at fault for not knowing what military intelligence knew during his administration, because he absolutely, positively couldn't be lying about not being told. Occams Razor, they knew, he knew and Trump is lying about it.

What's more poignant is Republicans were trying to score political points by saying this was a fuck up that could only ever happen under Biden. Except no, not only was it not a fuck up and we've now recovered equipment being studied for counterintelligence opportunities due to great leadership, but we also know it did happen under Trump too.

So if Republicans had not tried to turn this into a partisan attack, they wouldn't be back pedaling so hard on yet another hypocritical issue.
