The problem with so called "reform" is that you histrionic Leftist call reform immediate citizenship for all illegals already here, amnesty for everyone, welfare for everyone, no border wall or security and increasing immigration quotas. That isn't reform, that is capitulation. Trump had it right and we should have gone harder. I like Hungary's solution, they have a fence, they have all the immigration shelters outside the fence but still inside the country, families stay together in shelters but they aren't hotels and they aren't long term, immigration hearings are done in under a month and boom, dealt with.

So, in short, here are steps that would be good.

Path to citizenship, have a 6 month radio, tv and internet blitz telling every illegal in the country, you have until X day to register as here. You can do it in multiple languages, set up an automated phone hotline and so on. You MUST report in person to register, and all your kids and so on. IN PERSON so you can be photographed, possible DNA sampled (haven't decided on this one), fingerprinted and get a basic health exam for contagious diseases. You get documents the same day. All appropriate age individuals would be registered for the draft.

Lie on the documents, instant deportation and banned from the US for 10 years, no appeal. Failure to get documented by the deadline, instant deportation, banned from the US for 10 years, no appeal. If you are found to have committed a felony or a violent misdemeanor as an illegal, instant deportation after serving your sentence, banned from the US for 10 years. Help others to lie, evade or fake documentation, federal felony, 10 year minimum sentence, if you are not a citizen, banned from the US for life. After the deadline, if you are caught in the US without documentation, instant deportation, no hearing, banned from the US for 10 years.

You must get employed and stay employed. Any unemployment that doesn't involve verified disability for more than 6 month, instant deportation, banned from the US for 10 years, no appeal. You want to come here disabled, then you must have someone support you, you get divorced or the supporting person can't meet minimums before you become a citizen, then deported after hearing, banned for 10 years.

Citizenship is just like today, no fast lane, no skipping in line, you still pay the fees, take the tests and so on. You screw up and fail to get it on schedule, then hearing, get back on track or you lose the opportunity to become a citizen ever and end up with a worker visa or leave.

End birthright citizenship, no more anchor babies. One or both genetic parents must be citizens to be a citizen at birth and this does not apply to sperm or egg donors for medically created pregnancy. Rape does not apply.

Immigration policy should be reoriented around skills and needed labor and not family reunification. One baby here should not open the door for 237 extended family members. Families for a kid should be limited to immediate family. Mother, father, direct siblings, failing live parents, the closest living relative to be responsible for kid and spouse of that relative only.

Once documented, then arrangements can be made for back taxes you have avoided to go back 5 years or to when you can prove entry.

IF you don't want to abide by this, at any time or know you have committed crimes and so on, you can volunteer to be deported and you will get a free trip home without question, without criminal prosecution and without prejudice. This means if you know we will lock your ass up and then toss you out, you can get a get out of the US for free card once, pack your bags.

If you think this is draconian, it is. So what? These people are criminals by their very existence in the US and despite all they may be doing for the country, they are also breaking the law and shitting on those who came to the US through the proper channels and paid their dues to be citizens.

Waiting for time4aidingandabettingillegals to come along and lecture me and everyone on how heartless I am and so on and how it's terrible her family member, that she could have helped at any time to get citizenship, is treated so badly and so on.
I asked for neither your Opinion,
    your Acceptance
    nor your Permission.

Nah, I agree with about 90% of what you just outlined except the grace period followed by deportation of those currently in the United States illegally. Neither party would agree on that due to the disruption to the workforce, particularly in the food service and general labor industries. Reminder that those in the country illegally face deportation, yes, same no appeal deportation following conviction, yes, but those already here working and having ongoing jobs and paying taxes need to have a pathway to citizenship.

Everything else is perfectly reasonable. Except to bleeding hearts.

How you're so logical and reasonable on this topic, and so batshit crazy on other stuff, makes absolutely zero sense... but when I agree with you, I will admit it.

If instead they're passed onto consumers, who in turn buy more goods, why is that a bad thing.

There are still a sizeable number of Mexican migrants, but you're right the majority are central Americans. And yes a sizeable number are gang recruits. So implement a one strike program, where migrants are granted a work visa until they stop working or get arrested for a misdemeanor or more serious offense and then deport them for 5-10 years. No appeals, no 'but your honor it was just one bottle of tequila', just one express lane out of our country. Trump's plan to accept only migrants who wouldn't use welfare systems should also be codified.
73 million baby boomers will be retired by 2030. Your angry rant about passing savings on to consumers has no impact on the reduced demand from consumers. You're argument of "Products and materials get cheaper as new technologies or processes become moreso efficient" has no impact when there's no demand for the products. That's literally what a recession/depression is, less demand.

...I don't know why I'm wasting my time trying to explain this to you, you've already demonstrated that you have the intellectual level of a 4th grader.

If I have 10 tacos and only 1 person wants a taco, do I open another taco stand?

If I used to sell 10 tacos and now I can only sell 1 taco, can I continue to pay the same amount of taxes I did when I could sell 10 tacos?

You're theorizing that demand will increase due to retirement, but that's nothing more than a theory, you needn't get all huffy because someone doesn't agree with your basic premise.

Worldwide, populations are /not/ decreasing and the effect of globalization and e-commerce means there are always new markets in which goods can be sold. Will American demand decrease? Maybe, retirees don't consume less food, purchase fewer retail items and don't stop being a consumer altogether so I think your premise is deeply flawed.

/Meanwhile/ when the cost to produce goods and services increase, we see cost push inflation. The inverse, when the cost of goods and services decease, why wouldn't the price to consumers subsequently decrease? Ermagerd, people are retiring, things are going to get bad! Isn't a rational argument for anything.

Taxes on gross profits shift with earnings, so I don't understand what you're trying to imply, beyond a basic misunderstanding of how the United States tax system works. If you're trying to infer a business isn't making enough money to stay in business, then logically it should close. Increasing the cost of one taco to cover the price of what would get you ten tacos before would just result in no taco sales and business closure.

    You must like tacos.

Oh shit, we agree on something, someone introduce a hyper partisan tangent to the conversation!

I find nothing wrong with agreeing on certain things and disagreeing on others, that's how conversations and politics work.

How does a government operate when it's only taking in 1 taco worth of taxation if it takes 10 tacos worth of taxation to function?

That's literally the opposite of what I'm saying.

We already know that Social Security will have a 23% shortfall by 2030.
