Their tax exempt status is based upon their not engaging in anything but religious activities. Per the Revenue Act of 1913. Engaging in partisan political activism, influence peddling etc., is a violation of their tax exempt qualifications.

Then there were the Chinese who worked on the Transcontinental Railroad and were paid a pittance and abused thoroughly.

Really there's been several instances of slavery or indentured servitude in the history of the United States all of whom have already received reparations of some form or another. The current obsession with evening the scale is wanting to tip it so far in the direction of minorities that the likelihood of it ever coming to fruition is likely nill.
