Putin supposedly said he's willing to negotiate with Zelenskyy. If true I wonder if it's because his military isn't doing so great. I imagine he thought he would capture the capital and topple the current government in less than 24 hours, and it's looking like it might take days more at this point, if not longer. SAD! for a much better equipped military.

I don't think that is quite it. I don't imagine he wants to actually conquer all of Ukraine, just the areas that were in dispute by separatist forces(which were Russian military in all but name). Probably install a pro-Russian regime too.

His condition for negotiation was surrender. I think the Ukraine is sadly going to get taken over. I still contned that the smartest thing they could do would be to bomb every pipeline that goes from Russia to Europe, especially the ones that don't go thru Ukrain. Maybe just shit the valves on those. 40% of Russia's revenue is oil and gas, and most of that trade is with Europe.

Well yeah, but to install a puppet he's going to need to topple the current government and then probably keep troops behind to put down any resistance to the new puppet.

Yeah but then Europe would probably turn on Ukraine in an instant. Europe was dumb and made their economies too dependent on Russian oil and gas.

Alternatively, it would force Europe's hand. Once the oil stops flowing, what's the point of remaining on the sidelines? Besides, you just blame it on the Russians. They are the ones who blew up a jetliner over Ukraine before, no one would be shocked if they accidentally blew up a pipeline. Ok maybe multiples is suspicious, but you can hardly blame Ukraine. They're not the invaders.

I wouldn't blame Ukraine one bit. I just think the reason they won't do it is because it would probably piss off Europe more than it would Russia.

The US right now could effectively shut off Russia's oil and gas sales by kicking them off the SWIFT system but Europe is asking the US not to. It's all kinds of fucked.

The US can't singlehandedly kick anyone out of SWIFT.
