In his press conference today, Biden said that the sanctions are worse than ejecting Russia from SWIFT. Who here knows enough about SWIFT to tell us if that is true? I do not understand what SWIFT is. Something about sending wires.

I work for a big bank in a niche part of financial services, but honestly no idea about SWIFT until I started reading about it this week. My limited understanding is that if they are ejected from that, it essentially cuts off Russia from financial exchanges with the Western world. Sounds like that would hurt them a lot, but also be painful for Europe as well.

Yeah, cutting them off from swift is the nuclear option. Like I said earlier, I don’t think the EU has the stomach for it. They need russia for energy.
