House Democrats want to raise SALT deduction cap to $80,000. What that means for your tax bill

However, many filers don't know how the change to SALT may affect their bottom line, experts say.

"The SALT cap increase will have the biggest effect on high-income-tax states like New York, California and New Jersey," said certified financial planner Matthew Benson, owner at Sonmore Financial in Chandler, Arizona.

For 2021, the standard deductions are $12,550 for single filers or $25,100 for married couples filing together, meaning they won't itemize if write-offs — including SALT, medical expenses, charitable gifts, mortgage interest and more — fall below those thresholds.

And since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, filers who itemize deductions can't claim more than $10,000 for SALT, increasing levies for filers with high state income and property taxes.

However, the House Democrats' plan temporarily increases the limit to $80,000, allowing eligible filers to further reduce taxable income.

"This would certainly cause more people to itemize again in high-income-tax states," said Benson, explaining how most filers don't currently exceed the standard deduction.

It's basically making it sound like EVERYONE is gonna benefit from Democrats' give away to high income earners in blue states at the expensive of the poor and middle classes via their federal tax dollars.

Only problem is if this change goes through 57% of the total benefits will go towards the top 1% of earners, 40% are the next top 19% of earners (for those having trouble keeping up we're already at 97% of the benefits will go towards the top 20% of earners), the next 20% of earners will receive 2% of the benefits, and finally the final percent goes towards the next 20% of earners.

So let's recap:
57% of benefits go towards top 1%
40% goes towards top 2-20%
2% goes towards top 21-40%
1% goes towards top 41-60%
0% goes towards bottom 40%

But does this CNBC article mention any of that? Of course not! They make it sound like this is a tax break everyone gets to enjoy, and oh boy 80k cap on SALT, gee golly whiz that certainly is higher than the standard deduction of 12.5k, as if most middle and low income earners even pay enough in taxes to itemize their deductions.

The article then goes into "planning opportunities" for those who might earn less money through 2030 by selling appreciated assets sooner to reduce their capital gains bill, as if most fucking people reading this article have capital gains taxes and can sell appreciated assets.

What an absolute joke.

The article then ends by saying those mean ol' Republicans in the Senate might stop the the bill, as if this will somehow affect the middle class at all.

Remember how Democrat politicians managed to convince Democrat voters that they didn't really see any benefit from Trump's tax cuts, and now they are trying to convince these same idiots that they will see a single dime from this massive tax break to the rich.

So there was a recall effort in Seattle to recall the far left self-avowed socialist who helped rioters burn down her own city and has demonized police officers as the real bad guys.

On the first day of counting with 60% of the votes counted the recall vote was leading at 53%. She even told her supporters not to worry because "progressives" such as herself always manage to pull through towards the end of the ballot counting, and wouldn't you know it? She was exactly right. She survived the recall effort by 232 votes.

Amazing how this always seems to work in Democrats' favor, they are even flat out admitting it now. Almost as if something fishy is going on....hmmmm.......

This is called the Blue Shift. It's a pretty well-known political phenomenon that first started in the early 2000's. It's thought to be caused by provisional ballot counting. Provisional ballots come from the 2002 bipartisan Help America Vote Act.
