American troops have observed Afghan soldiers cowering in ditches whenever shooting breaks out and say they have seen them routinely stealing U.S.-supplied fuel, equipment and weapons, the military newspaper Stars and Stripes reported Wednesday.

It said some U.S. troops also suspect their Afghan counterparts of collaborating with Taliban insurgents. There also are concerns about rampant corruption as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, has set a goal of doubling Afghan forces to 400,000 within four years.

"I do not feel I am a mentor here," Capt. Jason Douthwaite, a U.S. logistics officer, told Stars and Stripes. "I feel like I am an investigating officer. It's not, 'Let me teach you your job.' It's more like, 'How much did you steal from the American government today?'"

One in every four combat soldiers quit the Afghan National Army (ANA) during the year ending in September, published data by the U.S. Defence Department and the Inspector General for Reconstruction in Afghanistan reveals.
Calling the organization on the whole cowardly and corrupt isn't inaccurate or even really controversial.

So I guess the Afghan soldiers who got killed and wounded today as they were helping to protect US civilians were just a bunch of cowards.

Democrats have gone from "Trump is the worst president ever for criticizing McCain!" to "It's totally cool if Biden wants to heavily imply the entire Afghan army are a bunch of cowards."

Over 60k Afghan military and national police died fighting the Taliban since our invasion of the country. So no, I don't think it's fair to say the organization as a whole is cowardly. I'm sure there were plenty of cowards and plenty of corruption going on, but that's a mighty broad stroke you and Biden are painting with there.

That's the nature of war people getting hurt an people dying. The important thing to remember is its not our war any longer, nor our responsibility to keep corruption in that country in check. Six months from now when our military outlays drop by tens of billions of dollars I'm sure the only ones upset will be the defense manufacturers.

And the British member of parliament who did train and fight with these men said Biden's remarks were bullshit, and considering there are still Afghan soldiers helping to protect the airport so US citizens can evacuate that shithole leads me to believe they aren't all a bunch of cowards who fled when things got tough.

Which British MP are you talking about? Tom Tugendhat? Everything I've read about him suggests he is one of the middle management types who perpetuated the myth that everything was A-OK in Afghanistan, just please send more money. What a shock to his worldview it must been to have Afghanistan exposed for the tire fire it always was.

Some are, some are not. Is it necessary in your evil little world that everything is or is not one thing. Or does your ability to rationalize come to grips with plurality.
