Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee) took the stand of fiscal conservatism over the weekend and delayed the bipartisan $1 Trillion dollar infrastructure bill. His state stands to benefit to the tune of tens of billions in road and bridge monies. My question, when will the Senate amend the bill to strip all funding to Tennessee and funding to those states with other objectors? It's easy to stick you foot in the door to grandstand when you know you'll ultimately get what you really want: money.
Let's call this for what it is, political theater. When Senator Hagerty man's up and floats an amendment to strip his state from consideration, or an amendment to propose further cuts or taxes to make the infrastructure deal fully paid for, he'll have credibility. But he won't, because it's political suicide for a Republican to raise taxes or to cut services to their state.
