I've had a very good friend with AML cancer in the hospital since the pandemic began. No one has been able to visit or anything. He had it in remission in mid June, but he was never discharged as he had some complications that prevented him from walking. It came back in July, and they resumed chemo treatments. He's been fighting it, but he and his family have decided with his doctors that there isn't anything left to do. Now he's coming home, to die. Doctor's give him a month at best. I may be able to see him before he moves on. 2020 can just go away. I'm heartbroken I can't do anything.

That absolutely sucks, my dude... watching people you care about slip away is one of the worst things to have to go through, my deepest sympathies.

SHM, sorry for your friend and that you can't help, I know that's the worst feeling. This is one of those times though that you hope the Docs are wrong, and he can get some extra time with his loved ones.

I appreciate the responses. He moved to hospice today and the outlook is likely less than a few days. Honestly I'm torn up between good, it's going to be quick and hopefully as painfree as possible and sad he won't have more time.

The last thing he told me was he wasn't feeling well and to call him this week (he said that Saturday). I should have called instead of texted on Saturday.

I was hospitalized for a week, my mother for 3 days last weekend with kidney failure, one of my best friends died of cancer (mentioned above), and my sister died unexpectedly Sunday night. Never mind the pandemic.

I know this isn't the place to come for sympathy, but goddamn am I ready for 2020 to be over. For real, this is the worst year in my life.
