Mike Pence did well. Best speech I've ever heard him deliver. Very presidential. Great background too. Pence is better at delivering a prepared speech than Trump. Trump's speech tomorrow night will look bad in comparison. Trump should use the hurricane as an excuse to postpone his speech to a future time when people won't compare his speech to Pence's or Biden's.

One odd thing in Pence's speech was the praise he gave a particular New York nurse. I'll need to read the transcript of the speech tomorrow to see if it makes more sense in writing.

Finally, Pence stressed law and order and praised police, but he missed an opportunity to acknowledge complaints of police bias. In fact, his comments about black people were condescending. He said something like, we can honor and respect police while still helping black people improve their safety and education. Um.

You've become the biggest tryhard.

There was a common law and order theme in Trump's 2016 and 2020 convention acceptance speeches. The below quote is from Trump's 2016 acceptance speech..

"Together, we will lead our party back to the White House, and we will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace. We will be a country of generosity and warmth. But we will also be a country of law and order.

Our convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation. The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life. Any politician who does not grasp this danger is not fit to lead our country.

Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities. Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have even been its victims.

I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored.

The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens. Any government that fails to do so is a government unworthy to lead.

How long before the Trump campaign starts talking about how experienced and talented Biden is at debating?

Ahead of next week’s first general election debate between President Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the president and the Trump campaign have been trying to portray the former vice president as a seasoned debater with decades of experience.

"I'm the one without experience. He's been doing it for 47 years," the president emphasized in an interview Thursday on Fox News' Brian Kilmeade's radio program.

But the move may be coming too late in the game – and appears too disingenuous – after six months of the president, the Trump campaign, and allied groups and surrogates repeatedly questioning the 77-year old Biden’s mental acuity.
