Either way they have no one to blame but themselves.
Whether they voted for it or not, to be happy that people will likely die... it shows a serious desensitization to life in general. Life should be protected, and we shouldn't be happy for any scenario where people might die, and especially innocent people who almost indefinitely will get caught up in it whether they chose it or not. It's a radical point of view that shows no value for life. This is a problem. It's sort of like being happy about civilians dying in a drone strike. This isn't okay. I don't care what you believe politically, surely you have to see that?

If it does come to pass, and the first innocent kid dies, you going to be happy then PB? How about the second? I really think you should seriously consider these types of things before you put them out there in the world PB.

They won't be without a police force. It's going to be a mess though. Like I said before, they've been trying and failing to enact police reform since the 70s. Best case they get a newly organized police force with more accountability. Worst case I can think of is they get a police strike when the police union feels threatened.

The dynamics are really tilted with the Minneapolis police.

Pretty racist for you to not agree with Black Lives Matter.

Dumb people around the world need to be reminded what it's like to be just that stupid. Minneapolis just volunteered to be the example that these dumb people need.

We should be applauding how brave they are.

Believe me, I know they won't actually have no police force. People want to feel safe, and they won't without police. These are knee jerk reactions to keep the peace, I do hope there is some serious reform though. Didn't I see that you live there? If so man, good luck with all of that, and I hope cooler heads prevail. But some people here seem to be actively wishing chaos and lawlessness on innocent people, likening it to the Purge movies which are pretty terrible... I just don't understand how anyone can fantasize about that happening to people and being okay with it. It's crazy to me and shows one more of those reasons why we are where we are. No respect for life, unless it's ours or someone close to us, generally speaking.

Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, has refused to dismantle the police force despite the veto proof vote to do so by the City Council.

A large crowd of demonstrators was outside his house today protesting his decision.

I live in St Paull, work in Minneapolis. In spite of what some folks here are saying, Minneapolis is a pretty great city, a thriving city.

There's no reason you would know anything about the council unless you lived here, but the Minneapolis City Council has a few power hungry back stabbing wack jobs, and lacks balance. There are some super power hungry people on that council. I've had a couple of experiences with them, and neither one has been good.

The City Council tried to take control of the police away from the mayor and give it to themselves last fall, and failed. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is a power play by power hungry people to gain even more power. Almost all of the power in Minneapolis resides with the council, but if I understand it correctly, the mayor has some authority over the police department. By dismantling the police department they can rebuild it under their authority.

I'm just hoping they end up with some meaningful reform out of all of this. We'll see.

I wonder if the mayor has the power to just ignore the city council. I guess the courts will end up deciding this.

It is a great city, in spite of a crappy city council. Neither the council nor the mayor can disband the police. They are required by charter to have a police force.
