I don't know what his personal politics are, but he does speak out about climate change so he's sometimes perceived as liberal.
He lost a lot of fans after he got caught up in MeToo, but mostly it's because he's the kind of person who after being told you have a headache, would say, 'well the bullet ant is rated 4+ on the Schmidt pain index, your headache can't be as bad as that'. He is 'factually correct', but also an insufferable tit. See: the picture I posted.
