I have to go on is watching Backdraft once like 30 years ago.

I have built many fire stations in SimCity and they never let a fire burn out of control like this.

edit to add just a little bit of serious: It was an amazing place, 800? years old and incredible in about every regard. Sad to see any historic monument go like this.

Notre Dame in Paris is burning, the roof and one of the spires has collapsed.

Weird thing is of all of the videos and pictures I have seen of the fire I didn't see one any water or helicopters dropping shit on the building or anything. It almost looks like they just let it burn.

No idea if the fire was just too large to do anything about it by the time they got there or the logistics to fight the blaze was too complicated or what. But whenever I see videos of a building on fire it seems like they emergency services are doing their best to put the fire out or at least contain it. Not here though.

Maybe they were worried that putting out a fire in a Catholic church would offend muslims.

The best way to put out a fire like this is to drop a frozen lake on it:

1. Find lake


2. Freeze lake


3. Drop lake on fire

I probably should, yes, but the comment stands. This is on par with 9/11 for a lot of people. I haven't heard or seen anything about anyone dying so far, thank god, but this is irreplaceable history being erased.

Except, unless I missed this in the news, 9/11 was an act of terrorism, and this appears to be an accidental fire.
