The takeaway is that the President knew full well they were going to be, and at no point consulted any actual people involved in the Department of Defense, and went through with it anyway.
Why?
Because he knew you people would eat it up with a spoon and a knife and a fork. To understand this President you must understand that his only understanding of politics is the campaign. Understand? Shout and blither and have people holler and cheer and this President considers it a win. Put in the actual hard work of composing and supporting legislation? Nah, that's for nerds. That's why we still have Obamacare, that's why you personally are still subsidizing poor peoples' healthcare, that's why we haven't built that wall, that's why we haven't locked her up, etc., etc., et al, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
But there is a way out. You don't even have to change your personal philosophies. I can guarantee you that Michael Richard Pence will nominate the judges you want, will sign the legislation you want, will veto the legislation you hate (should it come to that). You just have to stop pretending that a New York banker billionaire in any way deserves your defense. You know the "kids who were born in 2000 can legally buy drinks now" memes? Kids who were born when President Trump was a registered Democrat aren't even out of elementary school yet: as late as September 2009 he was a Democrat.
Meanwhile Michael Richard Pence has been a Republican since President Reagan.
So the question you have to ask yourself is do you expect a flailing frontrunner to stay the course? Or a solid party line company man?
