Funny how you decided to defend Robert E. Lee's stance on slavery yet you seemed to skip right over the post where I quoted him, in his own words, saying it's better for black people that they're enslaved. That it's for their own betterment. And that it's actually harder on the poor white slave owners than it is on the slaves.

A twisted sense of it being a "necessary evil" to better a race through subjugation and violence doesn't mean that the man wasn't racist or that his beliefs were somehow not awful.

Funny how you're applying 2017 standards to 1800s culture. Either way it still doesn't change the fact that had Virginia not seceded, Lee would have fought for the Union. Then he would magically be not racist, right?

So... a guy who owned slaves, was notoriously brutal to them, was a proponent of breaking up slave families to keep them subjugated, who lead the entire south in a war against the Americans of the Union in order to keep slavery wasn't exactly a fan of slavery. State loyalty > federal loyalty back then. That applied to pretty much everyone during that time. Perhaps if you picked up a book now and then you'd learn something. But first you'd have to accept the fact that facts won't always agree with your precious feelings.

If the alternative was trying to survive in the wilds of Africa, sure I would. Both would still suck, but I think it's safe to say that not having to worry about being eaten by lions on a daily basis or whatever while also trying to not starve to death and all that would suck less than being in a field all day.

This is disregarding the fact of most of the slave traders in Africa being black. Are they racist for selling other black people into slavery?
