This is research posted from late last year, but still amazing - they managed to regrow some of the optic nerve in mice and restored some vision. Optic nerves, like the spinal cord, can't regenerate on their own, so this is big news for the research on treatment for paralysis and blindness due to optic nerve trauma or glaucoma. Still several years out from clinical application, but good first steps.

There is also a brain implant/Geordi from Star Trek type visor thing going to clinical trials sometime this year. The other blindness-curing implants have all been retinal implants, which require an intact optic nerve to function. This new bionic eye bypasses the optic nerve and goes right to the brain.

My vision loss is from damaged optic nerves, so this is all awesome - maybe I'll be able to get some limited vision back at some point.

(Though I am kind of squicked out at the thought of getting a brain implant. We'll see.)

You seriously don't see him pushing down on the towel, making himself a pound lighter?

This 'blew your mind'? Really? Blew your mind....
Freedom... is the ability to challenge yourself far beyond the constraints of traditional rule and order. We draw strength from our passions... we're driven by desire... even hatred can be a worthy ally when used against an enemy... and yet, we are told to turn our backs on these things... the very feelings, emotions... that make us all... human.

It didn't make me smile. Or laugh. It "blew my mind" on how the announcer could be this dumb.

A girl was found living among monkeys in an Indian forest. How she got there is a mystery.
