They can't charge you more because of a pre-existing condition, anymore than they can deny you coverage. At least not the specific you. They can and will charge the general populace more. If they could taylor plans to the individual we'd be right back to square one. I have heard that health care provider liability insurance is bonkers in Florida, maybe that's part of the problem.
I sympathise with the difficulties of pre-existing conditions, and the fear of not having something covered if you change plans. Particularly some drugs, of which there are few options, and the insurance companies work out huge contracts with whichever drug provider they can get the best deal on, and then it's difficult to get one of the other ones. That would all be fine if they were equal, but they're not, they're only similar.
