My grandmother (my dad's mother) passed away yesterday. My brother and I made it up to see her and say goodbye before she passed. Family asked that my brother and I sing at the funeral, this should be a blasty.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

A good time, but in this context complete sarcasm. I hate singing at funerals.

I didn't even know singing at funerals was a thing.

It's requested sometimes during the lowering of the casket. I've done it for a few funerals for members of the church, families ask me to sing the deceased's favorite hymn.

Never heard of this, is it a regional or cultural thing? The good thing is that you've been requested to perform the song. I had an inlaw who rather insistently offered to sing at my wedding, I had to tell her no several times.

Not really sure where the background in it is. My brother was asked to sing at my grandfather's funeral a few years back as well so I don't know if it's just the region or what.

It's a regular thing at memorial and funeral services everywhere.
