My friend Tanya, right now, is working a shift as a hostess at an Applebees here in Sacramento. I just texted her *She's the person who seats you and assigns you a waiter/waitress...that's a hostess right?* and she texted me back. Here's what I asked

Me - Hey Yaya. I got a question. I know you're workn, but it dovetails. Have any of your peeps ever had a customer 'removed from the establishment' for harassment? Or anythin like that? Hit me back girl.

TooTanTanya - It's happened a couple times. I've only worked here like four years. Denise got a guy kicked out for squeezing her bootie! But Derek said if she did it again, it would come out of her check cuz she was costing the restaurant and thas not ok. He's an asshole.

Me - Who's Derek?

TooTanTanya - One of the ASSt managers.

Yadda yadda, not relevant bullshit, blabla..

Anyways. Okay, I admit it apparently happens. And apparently the staff get blamed and/or threatened. Sweet.

If you are in food prep, and give someone shit they're allergic to, in a malicious attempt at a prank *like the stuff we are talking about* you ABSOLUTELY WILL be charged with.... whatever is appropriate. Manslaughter, murder, whatever.

Most people do dumb shit like hock snot into your gravy. Or spit. They don't suddenly give you pepper and you're allergic to pepper. I do understand where you're coming from, though. And that is NOT cool, in any situation. Because, in this, you are right. People CAN die. People can't die from your snot. They might yak if they knew, but you get what I'm saying.

Although it does bring up the 'what if you have AIDS and spit in someone's burger' thing. That's a whole can of worms on the side!

One of the Applebees here makes fucking bomb as shit country fried steak. It was so good I actually met a couple of the cooks who work there because I wanted the recipe. Upon trying to recreate it... I failed. Not terribly, but it wasn't awesome. So I go there every so often.

Haven't tried anything else from there. Why? What's wrong with Applebees? Other than they suck.

Well, except you can spread diseases easier that way. AIDS doesn't spread through spit as far as I have heard, but other shit does, like Flu which can and does kill people.

I most certainly am not worried about any food I have ever eaten. I usually only talk to the server to make an order.

And it doesn't matter if people are regularly killed or not, health codes exist for a reason. Working in the back of a restaurant and food preparation is a job that is generally in the public trust. You may not consider it the equivalent of a police officer or a firefighter or something, but those people still need to behave like adults.
