I wasn't talking about the actual bail out after the fact.. I was talking about Fanny and Freddie being backed by the government and buying up toxic loans with no worry about being able to collect on those loans.

A bank won't loan someone money if they don't have a way to get that money back... unless government will guarantee those loans.

Get the government out of the loan guarantee/buying and you will have a more responsible banking community.

If you say things enough times you can even convince yourself they're true.

Agreed. In general, get the government out of "x" and you will have a more responsible "x" community.

Obviously. Deregulate bankers and they will never do anything wrong.

It's laughable someone can still believe this after the financial fiascos in America's past.

It's sad, but I have to agree with you. "Communities" need oversight from the government. Tho they DON'T need the government to be so far up their ass that they can check for colon cancer.

Banks need some oversight so they don't do stupid things... but they don't need the government backing up whatever they do. If a bank fucks up, it should fail. Same as any company. Same with the auto companies. Sorry.. but it's fucked up that the government would put my money on the line for X, and not Y. Why didn't the government step in and make sure Joe's Deli didn't go under? EVERY company should be allowed to succeed or fail based on their own merits, not interference by the government. All the government should be doing is making sure they all play fair.
    This space for sale.

I agree in principle, but the issue is "too big to fail." If these larger institutions do get themselves to a point of failing, they take so much down with them when they go that the results are catastrophic. I'm not sure what the solution is.

Those institutions are far larger today. The only solution is to break up these "too big to fail" corporations. That won't happen though since bribery is completely legal in the guise of donations and most of congress is in on the dole. Sad that Citigroup writes legislation and pretty much all of MSM doesn't even bat an eye. I guess mutual greed is the only thing that gets congress to work together.

If they're too big to fail, they're big enough to bust! As Teddy Roosevelt once said, "Nature makes me excited and I want to hump it. *gunfire*"

Not according to Obama and Holder. Too big to fail = too big to prosecute.
