I still remember when there were Indig groups pissed about Chief Wahoo too.

What you're learning is that it's not entirely up to him.

Wait until they revoke his trademark protection. He'll lose money and you'll see him make a change pretty damn quick. Nothing to do with tradition or honor. Just greenbacks.

“Registration is refused because the applied-for mark includes matter which may disparage or bring into contempt or disrepute persons, institutions, beliefs, or national symbols,” the agency ruled, via a press release distributed by the Oneida Indian Nation. “Given that ‘REDSKIN’ in the mark is a derogatory slang term that refers to, and is considered offensive by, American Indians, registration of the applied-for mark must be refused.”

The agency, which previously declined trademark protection for the term “Redskins Hog Rinds” on similar grounds, is considering revoking the NFL football team’s federal trademark protection. The fact that the two Redskins-related trademarks were rejected based not on infringement on the Redskins trademark but on the offensive nature of the term doesn’t bode well for the franchise.

While the loss of trademark protection wouldn’t force a name change, it would allow anyone and everyone to sell items bearing the name without compensation. The more third parties that market Redskins-related items, the more the team’s own goods will be diluted.Profootballtalk

The owner of a racist caricature, which references a people who were systematically destroyed, doesn't want to "give up" what he owns? The colonization and "claiming" of native imagery is another racist practice white people regularly justify. Your argument is complete shit, as usual.

There is no "were", they still are.
You had better pay your guild dues before you forget. You are 113 months behind.

Chief Wahoo's going to go away too. I grew up in the Cleveland area and we were big Indians fans. My grandpa worked for a company called Beverage Distributors. One of his accounts was the stadium so he'd get us into the dugouts and locker rooms before the games to meet the players. It was awesome. I remember being a kid when I first heard about this controversy and I didn't like it. It felt like people might be criticizing me because I loved the logo so much. I had a hard time not taking it personally because I was a kid. That's the psychology that's going on with these guys. They feel personally attacked.

Little segue here. My Grandpa put together a special beer deal for an Indians game 40 years ago tomorrow. Hilarity did not ensue.

The 5,000 was what the reps from that one Native nation represented.

"It's a name that honors the people," says Kingston English teacher Brett Hayes, who is Choctaw. "The word 'Oklahoma' itself is Choctaw for 'red people.' The students here don't want it changed. To them, it seems like it's just people who have no connection with the Native American culture, people out there trying to draw attention to themselves.
Fuck.. An Indian that says that Oklahoma is their language for "Red People". Damn.. NOW we got to change the name of a fucking state.
    This space for sale.
