The data seem to show at a pretty general level that there is a disconnect between how people think about these issues consciously and unconsciously. So you can have very positive views about a team mascot like the Redskins, and genuinely and sincerely say you are supportive of the team and think about the mascot in a positive way. While, at an unconscious level, the mascot could be having negative effects on you and the people who are hearing you talk about those terms.

When I think of the word Redskins, I don't think of Natives. I think of an NFL football team.
If the team lasts 100 more years, no one will even remember the two were connected at one point.

Be that as it may, it is still a very small minority of them. Maybe I should get a bunch of my friends and start a protest against the name "Cracker Barrel" or get some of my Italian buddies to get pissed about the Whopper.

They have a mascot too, just like the Indians. If people forget the name or mascot was originally a race of people, it's probably because that race of people all died out.
Considering there are only a few million of them, 5000 in and of itself is a pretty significant number.
