Last year the NFL's total revenue was $9b. BP's was $240b. Their brand recognition is therefore about 800 times more important than any given team's.

I've seen fans destroy cities when their favorite sports team lost a game. I've seen fans destroy cities when their favorite sports team won a game. What are the Redskin fans going to do if the team changes their name? Do we really want to find out? Do we? These fans are likely the descendants of people who gave Native Americans blankets riddled with diseases.

Never underestimate the excuses people will give for bad behavior.

And let's not forget that most of those local fans are black, and as such are professional rioters. It could get bad.

No. If BP changes their logo, who is going to notice? You? If they do are you going to stop buying gas at the gas station because of it? No.

If your favorite basketball team changed their logo to a pink and purple fairy would you buy that team's products anymore? Could you stand to watch them play a game in those jerseys?

It's why we can't have nice things. People feel threatened and get their back up. Then it becomes a fight. That's why we always have to fight and fight and fight just to get rights.

It's totally crazy when you look at it, but it's human nature. ingroup/outgroup psychology. Look how easily gay marriage is accepted now(and it's not totally but it's a lot better). That took years and years of fighting. Looking back on it we can see that it's no big deal but if the gays didn't fight for 40 or 50 years nothing would have changed.

Dan Snyder says it's no big deal, it's not racist, it's a sign of respect blah blah blah....but it's going to change and after it does people will look back and realize that it was no big deal too.

That's what people think all the time before fans do riot for whatever reason. You never know until it happens. Personally I wouldn't want to be walking around with red skin if the Redskins change their name.
