It's a heated issue in this country because of so much ignorance about guns in this country.
They do ask. Especially pediatricians. They ask about hazards that could lead to in home accidents. They can also provide some tips on gun safety with kids in the house, locks to buy, storage etc... the same way they tell parents to put harsh chemicals out of reach and protect the pool area etc...

    Frightening.

My only concern is: who determines if a person is sane enough? What does one have to do in order to be put on this No Gun list?
I think if we carefully established criteria related to harm to self and others we could do okay. That'd require a bunch of politicians cooperating in a common sense way though, which we both know isn't likely to happen.

I'm so happy with the numbers so far and am impressed at the way Obama's handled it. I want healthcare reform. The system we've been using is out of whack and the ACA is a great step in the right direction. The tsunami of partisan criticism it's received has bummed me out at times, and there were times when I wanted Obama to get off his ass and do more to promote his plan. Turns out he kept his cool and delivered. I think it will be a great success and the foundation for a system that we'll appreciate for generations.

This is a slippery slippery slope. We've yet to find a way to stop trouble through proactive prevention. We don't (except for tom cruise) put people in jail based on the likelihood of them committing future crimes and our foundations are built on the idea that until you screw up you get the benefit of the doubt. Guns are never going to leave our culture. We fucking love them. We are a warrior/militaristic culture and get everything we have now through the liberal use of firearms.

We can tighten up on ownership though. Background checks are a hot button issue for no reason. Some people are already restricted from gun ownership but in states like Florida they just buy a gun out of the newspaper. No tracking, checking nothing. A couple hundred bucks and you get a gun. If the gun owners would come up with make sense laws and support them, much of this debate would go away.

"The system we had in place SUCKS! But Obamacare is trying to fix that problem by forcing yet more people into the old, shitty system!"

    "Tons"?

Let's say the average American weighs 200 pounds (LOL!) and if 3 tons of people are happy with it that's just about 30 people.

Even if we said 10 tons of people are happy with it that's only 100 people.

    That's pathetic.

But seriously Back, why are you happy with it? Has your health coverage changed at all? Benefits? Costs?
