    Whirlin's Guide to Political Threads:
    1) Someone posts a purposefully partisan thead/article/link, baiting commentary.
    2) People Reply with what they think are logical points.
    3) More people reply by taking specific comments out of context, and/or don't address the points/concepts.
    4) People make troll posts to mess with Posters #2 and #3
    5) Repeat 2-4 Many times
    6) Thread becomes too long, and people begin to chime in with 'new ideas' that were covered 60+ pages earlier.
    7) Repeat steps 2-6 until an adequate Step 1 draws attention.

Wasn't saying you said anything wrong, just pointing it out.

That being said, EITC has nothing to do with the ACA. They do not even use the same structure. SO not really sure why you brought up the EITC for someone that was talking about poverty level and the ACA and Virginia not expanding medicaid.

Fair enough, comments seemed broadly painted with "any" tax credits at that level of income, and it sounding unreasonable for someone at that low of an income not to qualify for ANY credits. Having not read the last 10 pages, didn't realize that the discussion was specific to ACA tax credits. Though, in hindsight, reasonable with the thread name.

It would be really entertaining if we could emulate the Politics Folder Progress Quest/ Thomas Friedman Generator style

I still highly doubt that the person that made the statement really only makes 12k or less a year as a small business owner. If they did though, you are right, they would qualify for EITC, and the ACA credits.

EITC for 2013 is $14,340 ($19,680 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children, with a max payout of 487. ACA is a max of 2,500. So.. who knows. I say wolf.

But I wouldn't love working at McDonalds? I'd rather be poor doing what I love, than have more money and be miserable going to work every day.

    Also, I didn't qualify as of 2012.

I'll let you see if you can figure out why.

Also, the ACA credit will not be extended to me, as far as the healthcare.gov website indicates, because I live in Virginia. As I said, if I lived in, for example, Maryland, I would qualify for the ACA credit.

So, you started a business doing something you love, but it doesn't pay you very much... but you don't want to get a job that pays you a living wage because that's not fun enough?

    And it's Virginia's fault?

    From the Health.gov website...

If your state isn’t expanding Medicaid for January 1, 2014

Some states aren’t expanding their Medicaid programs effective January 1, 2014. If you live in one of these states, you may not have as many options for health coverage. It will depend on where your income falls.

If your income is more than 100% of the federal poverty level -- about $11,500 a year as a single person or about $23,500 for a family of 4 -- you will be able to buy a private health insurance plan in the Marketplace and may get lower costs based on your household size and income.
If you make less than about $11,500 a year as a single person or about $23,500 for a family of 4, you may not qualify for lower costs for private insurance based on your income. However, you may be eligible for Medicaid, even without the expansion, based on your state’s existing rules.
So that would mean you make less then 11,500 for your "job you love".

So.. let me ask you this.. if you CHOOSE to do a job that pays you WELL below minimum wage, why the FUCK should I give a shit about your healthcare? Do I also need to support you in foodstamps, and welfare cash assistance, because you CHOOSE to do this? maybe you are a panhandler. I have no clue, but seriously.. I don't care if you love it or not, if you can't afford to live on the job you are doing, do a new job.

As for why you didn't get the EITC, apparently you would likely have investment income over 3,300 a year.

Which means if you make less then 12k a year income, and investment income is 3,300 (at least) then you make less then 9k a year at your business. Seriously dude.. be an adult and move the fuck on, or shut your trap about how the world isn't treating you fair.
