On the scale of political leaning, traditionalism and orthodoxy are under purview of conservatism. Reverse that and progressive values (think feminism, birth control) are generally considered the purview of liberalism. I can find something more academic if you want but for the sake of convenience I took the top of google search.

Nah, here's what I think. The guy holding the sign isn't religious or conservative at all, but his father was killed by a roving pack of gays so he joined the demonstration to get revenge, and he's just holding whatever sign someone gave him to hold up.

Makes WAY more sense than his being a conservative religious loon.
