I think American Indians in particular could make a very strong case that we're not talking about a "these days" scenario, but a continuous practice and environment of discrimination.

Sometimes I wonder if Hell is merely a mirror of all the bad things we envision or tolerate for other people.

People will always be discriminated against. Two things that will not occur (unless aliens arrive and unite us as one!) - World peace and true equality. Do I think in the past there is injustice in how certain people have been treated, of course. Does that mean it will ever stop completely, not one bit. Unless we become automotons - and 50,000 years of history (with a good 5,000 recorded in some form or fashion) tend to support this.

Of course people think we are the rulers of the universe too... but our few hundred thousand year evolution is nothing compared to a few billion. Give it enough time, we'll just all be a footnote, and we can only hope something evolves from what we are into something better. Sadly time travel isn't around yet (still working on my Delorean), and none of us will ever know.

We could hope to evolve, or we could go ahead and evolve. A human today is biologically indistinguishable from a human 1mya, the only difference between you and me and the first man and Camus is due to the will of generations (including but not limited to showering).

Progress, status quo, regress... all choices. What does not using a slur cost you? Nothing, especially a slur against 1% of the population. Odds are you'd never have the chance to use it even if you wanted to, so why not abjure it?

And if the Native Americans come out in a week and say "okay, now 'Native American' is a slur and you can't use that either"... what does it cost you? If I remember your posts correctly you are a middle aged white guy, which in today's America makes you perhaps the most privileged class who has ever lived. You really can't cede this tiny little bit?

Actually, new evidence suggests human existence in the Americas before the land bridge through the bearing straits. Strong evidence suggest they were from Europe. So... Were Europeans just taking their shit back then?

I'm not sure how strong that evidence is. There are some compelling arguments though. Not the least of which is that Shawnee had a mythology built around a blond haired blue eyed demi-god and this myth predates Columbus.

There is definitely an uproar over the logo which for obvious reasons does not apply to the Redskins' logo. As "American Indian" is a possibly appropriate name, I think the name itself is not a big deal.

However, I recommend you find the nearest official Native American establishment and ask them yourself. In person.

To me personally not offensive. But to make that blanket statement just because my skin color is white? Are all white males then, the most privileged people in the U.S.? You stereotype me, just because of other white males? Do you know what I've done or been through in my life? Because apparently you know how rich I am and how easy I've had it in life, based solely off of my gender and skin color. Way to be a racist and sexist (sarcasm).

I'd love if everyone was judged based off of their abilities and accomplishments, but even people who think they are above stereotyping people, are often the worst offenders themselves.
