WTF. My biscuits and gravy pack didn't have biscuits. Just gravy. I ain't honey boo boo just shoveling gravy down my throat.
I'm talkin helmet to helmet. You can't do it in today's league. As for Ridley, look, there's only so much that can be done when both men drop down and try to get as low as they can. It's not an intentional thing, but you can't stop it from happening all the time. If anything, it's Ridley that lead with his helmet. You'll notice Pollard is mostly upright and preparing to make a legal tackle when Ridley drops down and causes the head smashing.
He can know (or google) whatever stats he wants, but when the following occurs:Oh jesus. Someone's going to question Latrin about sports. I'll check this thread in a week when the ridiculous stats stop pouring out of his fingertips, like HAL the computer.
Me: Defenseless receiver rule is bullshit
Him: Seau had CTE
You kinda have to think he doesn't know what's going on.
Cool story, bro!
Here's a nifty little site to help some of you guys brush up on your rules:
http://www.nflevolution.com/article/...-Rules?ref=256
"Since 1982, a defensive player was prohibited from using the crown or top of his helmet against a passer, a receiver in the act of catching a pass, or a runner who is in the grasp of a tackler." -- this is 'leading with the head'
"Defensive players are prohibited from lowering their heads to make forcible contact with the facemask, or with the “hairline” or forehead part of the helmet, against an opponent, instead of only with the top/crown."
"Defensive players are prohibited from forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head, neck, or face with the helmet or facemask."
"Defensive players are prohibited from launching into a defenseless player in a way that causes the defensive player’s helmet or facemask to forcibly strike the defenseless player’s head, neck, or face, even if the initial contact of the defender’s helmet or facemask is lower than the defenseless player’s neck."
Well, here's the announcement of the rule:
Players will be prohibited from "launching" (leaving both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into an opponent or using any part of the helmet to initiate forcible contact against any part of the opponent’s body) to level a defenseless player, as well as "forcibly hitting the neck or head area with the helmet, facemask, forearm or shoulder regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him.", and lowering the head and make forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/"hairline" parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body. Offenders will be penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness and ejected from the game if the contact is deemed flagrant."
Although spearing has been illegal forever, they still stress "forcibly hitting the neck or head area" and making "contact with the... helmet".
.
With all that said, I was primarily responding to your broader expounding, ending with "Don't wanna hurt anybody.". We are aware now of the real consequences of brain damage from football, and one consequence of that is that there will be a stronger emphasis on safety.
Hasta pronto, porque la vida no termina aqui...
America, stop pushing. I know what I'm doing.
