Well, I look at it like this. I spent 20 years arguing with my mother and never convinced her of a damn thing. Do I want to fight with her all the time? No. Is there any consequence for agreeing with her politely and then doing my own thing? No. I am far beyond grounding age, and she can't really hold a grudge for me living my own life. So yeah, it works for me. Familial peace always involves a certain amount of forgiving and then ignoring the faults of others.
Edit: My point is, if it accomplishes nothing, don't waste the energy doing it.
