So, actual reason I came to this thread: This morning my mother calls me and says that at 1 pm I *have to* go pick up this piece of jewelry for my sister's wedding from an Indian jeweler in Manhattan...it's been shipped from India, big deal, blah blah blah.

Nevermind that I don't like having to give up my lunch break to go pick up jewelry for a wedding which has utterly consumed the rest of my family, I can deal with that to an extent. So I go and pick up this necklace. Looks pretty gaudy, but in an Indian Hindu wedding sort of way (my sister's fiance's father is Hindu, so we're having a Hindu ceremony for his family). Hindu weddings are very elaborate, lots of clothing changes, lots of jewelry, lots of everything. But, the general implication is the jewelry is imitation jhumki stuff, because you need a lot of it.

30 minutes after 1, my mother calls me. She asks me if I have the necklace. I say yes, I just picked it up. She asks if I have it on me, I say, yes, obviously, because I'm heading back to the office. She then tells me to not let it out of my sight. Then she says to not let it leave my apartment once I take it home, and to not leave it in the apartment while I go out, and that she'll pick it up on Monday when she's in the city. Annoying, but let's be honest, I can cancel my social plans cause I didn't really want to go out anyways.

Then she stressed again that I not let it out of my sight. I thought she was stressing way too much over a couple hundred dollars worth of imitation jewelry. Then she says..."Alok, that necklace isn't imitation, it's real. We were going to buy imitation, but then your sister saw this necklace in [New] Delhi last December and told your father she had to have it, and he caved, as usual." This is not something I want to hear in Midtown Manhattan when I'm heading to fucking Harlem (where our office is). I ask her, how much of it is real? She says all of it. 22k gold, probably a dozen uncut diamonds, set with rubies, emeralds and pearls, and hand painted in India.

Now I'm about to shit myself. I asked her how much it was worth. My mother, who spends money like an Arab drinks water, sounds nervous and afraid for what must be the first time I've ever heard in my life. She says, verbatim, "Your father won't even tell me how much it cost. But it costs at least 10 lakh because he said it was 'in the millions'.

    10 lakh = 1,000,000 rupees.

Current exchange rate: 55 rupees to the dollar.

$18,145 necklace in my briefcase. Looks like I'm taking a cab home and fortifying my apartment. I'm sitting in my office and I can't even think about work.

I can help escort you. Just tell me where exactly your office building is, what time you'll be leaving, what door you'll be coming out of, and a detailed description of yourself and what you're wearing. If you're wearing a suit jacket take it off, you'll probably get blood on it.... if someone tries to mug you I mean.

For the record. I am in full support of all the rages against these machines.
I can get behind taking someone who is knowledgeable. Why do you have to qualify that as only being someone male though?

You twist and turn your own words in this thread and yet, once again, you avoid answering my question. Your position is really indefensible so I guess I understand your unwillingness.

There's not much left to discuss Tisket. I ignored your question because it was a stupid question I just don't always enjoy telling people they've asked stupid questions. I've already suggested you read the study to understand where I'm coming from. There's not much more to do except say I disagree with you, is there? Unless we're going to go the way of political threads and start calling each other names. In which case I special order in advance fuck face cunt basket.

Of course I do, that's where a great deal of radical leftist thought ferments.

To my credit, I paid entirely (IE, took out lots of loans) for my own law school and haven't used any of their money since their last check for college cleared....so almost 10 years off the capitalist teat.

But I thought it was pretty common knowledge my dad is a Wharton MBA and vice chairmen/CEO of the Atlantic division of a fairly large super-regional bank.

Here's the thing...I did read it but I have to doubt whether you yourself did so. The 20 year old study cites gender AND racial inequality. So, since you said this report shows proof of why a female should take a male car shopping wouldn't it follow, from your own reasoning, that a black person should take a white with them when shopping for cars?
