Slept through my alarm, woke up when the taxi driver called to tell me he was outside. Needless to say, I'm barely dressed, barely rested and still have one more flight between me and my cozy bed. =/ I slept on the last one for about 20 minutes.

To be fair, you could use a public bathroom instead. It tends to go better, in my experience.

But then they have rules like icing, which just prevents cherry picking.

Icing prevents playing defense haphazardly by just flinging the puck down the ice with no regards to actually making a play.

You're thinking offsides, which prevents an offensive player not handling the puck from entering the offensive zone before the puck. Same rule as soccer except the offsides line is static in hockey, whereas in soccer it's based on where the second furthest player back is.
