I'm glad I'm not the only one who questioned the returning of the dead fish.

Possibly their fear would compel them to exchange them, is that your point?

Yes... fear me, petsmart fish clerk. Exchange my fish, or I SHALL DESTROY YOU!

Quit being bitches. Now I have to put you on ice and cart you back to petsmart for their fish replacement guarantee... and transporting fish in a plastic baggy on the front seat of my car kind of makes me feel creepy.
Is the aquarium big enough for 10 fish?

    Neg rep me please.

Assuming it's a typical twenty gallon and they are each about an inch and a half long you will only have enough air in the tank for about 7 or 8 fish. So...if all other variables are as you say they should stop dying now.

About half of them are neon tetras, the tiny fuckers. 4 of those (although one has now died), a sunburst platy which has now died, a silver lyretail molly, a blue thing I forget the name of, a ghost catfish, and a little tiny colorful guppy I also forget the proper name of. So there were 9. Now there are 7. Well, there were 7 about 4 hours ago. By the time I get home from work, who knows?

Fish are lame anyway. If my son didn't love watching them, it would be a snake, or possibly some lizards instead.

Edit: Plus, the petsmart fish guru essentially picked them all out for the tank I have. Any fish deaths relating to a lack of oxygen are thus her fault. I am at best guilty of fishslaughter, and not fish degree murder.

Have you considered ph? Mollies are alkali fish, very aggressive and pretty terrible drama queens, going so far as to cannibalize each other in favor of mating under stressful living conditions. The molly could be what is killing the others if its situation is not ideal. Guppies are awesome for kids and so are tetras, but not together. Guppies are passive little cuddle bugs and tetras are fin nippers. Soon you will notice your guppy is missing. The catfish will last if he can find places to hide.

So you will end up with one (sick) molly and a few tetra and the catfish. I suggest you take the molly back and fill the tank with the tetras. They are cute and pretty and low maintenance. The water can be whatever and however.

    lol mollies...

    lol mollies...
Fish are stupid. I was assured these fish would all be non-aggressive towards each other. If that is not the case, I will be presiding over an aquatic arena- winner take all.

We'll see what happens. Worst case scenario, I just keep filling and refilling the tank with 10 cent gold fish that last about 3 days... or make my friend come over and tend to this tank. He is some sort of fish-master... he has a black belt in never-been-laid, and knows an ungodly amount about the care and maintenance of fish and their habitats. Possibly I should have consulted with him first, but that would involve listening to him talk about fish for way longer than I was prepared to accept.

    Edit:
I am including links to the fish in question.

    Deceased- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

Two deceased, one living, I miscounted originally.- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

    Catfish- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

    Molly- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

    Guppy- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

There is one in the tank I couldn't find and can't remember the name of... but it looks pretty much exactly like this, except blue- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...lmdn=Live+Fish

Think that's all of them. If the fish advice I received from the professional was bad advice, there will be a fishy smelling hell to pay.

    Edit 2:
So looks like I lost the platy and two tetras, but the rest of the fish seem to be swimming energetically and showing no signs of distress.

Try using distilled or purified water, your tap water might be shit.
