Thread: What Are You Wearing?

  1. Default

    Warcamping

You see Naitalya Leynier the Reaver.
She appears to be a Vaalor Elf.
She is average height and appears to be young and sprightly. She has thick-lashed luminous rhimar-hued eyes and flawless, soft ivory skin. She has very long, lustrous sable hair held in a loose chignon by some slender eahnor hairsticks. She has a delicate face, a petite, pert nose and delicately curved ears. A dark crimson dreamstone with swirled black striations is positioned between her eyes, which casts a sparkling stygian sheen across her face.
She has a cluster of sleek eahnor rings in her right eyebrow, a delicate tattoo of star-hearted cherry blossoms inked across her collarbone, and a twisted vine of briars tattoo circling down her right forearm.
    She is in good shape.
She is holding a blackened eahnor-spiked tetsubo in her right hand.
She is wearing a smooth dark glass moon lavaliere, a knee-length black leather longcoat, a raven black leather back scabbard, some engraved blued steel halfplate with a soft crimson cotton gambeson underneath, a single soft black leather glove with silver-buckled forearm straps, some low-slung black leather trousers, and some low-heeled black leather boots.

longcoat - Designed to fall from the shoulders in broad lines, the longcoat is cut from soft ebon leather to fall to just below the knees with a short split up the back. A series of silver barbs serves to fasten the coat securely down the front. Lined with pearl grey silk, numerous pockets have been sewn into the interior. Silver embroidery is featured along the hems and sleeves in a twisting and knotted design.

Yay, it's time to dig the warm weather clothes out.

    You see Tylaen.
She appears to be a Sylvankind of the Fresiawn D'ahranal.
She is shorter than average and appears to be very young. She has wide periwinkle blue eyes and fair skin. She has unruly, flaxen hair left to spill loose down her back except for a single narrow braid that wraps her head in a tight coronet. The freckle-dusted tips of her pointed ears stick out from beneath her hair.
    She is in good shape.
She is wearing a spill of fragrant white jasmine tucked behind one ear, a soft doeskin satchel slung over her shoulder, a loose white cotton shirt with billowing sleeves, a solid silver bracelet with enameled musical notes, a shuttered cobalt lantern charm, some blue multi-wrapped gossamer pants with doeskin laces, and a pair of trim soft doeskin boots.

    Pretty sure that's all off-the-shelf.

    Here you go Dex!

    You see Corlyne Lancre Nalfein.
She appears to be an Elf.
She is taller than average and appears to be young. She has ebon-haloed, vivid nephrite green eyes and faultless, soft alabaster skin. She has short, glossy obsidian hair shorn at an angle to fall smoothly along her jawline. She has thin-loped ears that curve sharply upward and frame the delicate contours of her face.
She has a serpentine coil tattoo on her chest.
    She is in good shape.
She is wearing a burnished cast bronze collar of contorted widowwood twigs, a white rabbit fur pelisson, a reticulated python skin corset patterned with twin pallid diamond columns, a pair of dramatically flared soft linen pants dyed a stark white hue, and a pair of ankle-cuffed pale brown leather sandals set atop narrow linden wedges.

Aww, see, don't you ladies all look great?! Even all off the shelf stuff can look nice if you put it together well. Especially the off the shelf items these last couple of years. The GMs have been creative.

    Hippy chick rangerette mode:

You see Lady Merelle Hart Nalfein.
She appears to be an Elf.
She is tall and appears to be young. She has long-lashed warm russet gold-flecked eyes and silky smooth, lightly sunkissed skin. She has hip-length, soft flaxen blonde hair captured and bound at the nape of the neck by several wooden beaded braids tied in a casual knot. She has a delicate face, a straight nose and thin-tipped pointed ears. Her left cheek has been marred by a series of fine silver scars.
She has a twisting vine and leaf tattoo on her arm.
    She is in good shape.
She is wearing a silk-lined shaggy jacket of dusky pink and grey tufted pelts, a loose white silk shirt with oversized ruffles, a pair of powder pink leather gloves, a pair of loose-fitting charcoal silk pants, and some mahogany leather sandals stacked on linden heels.

You arrange yourself on the throne.

You attend to your gold wirework circlet, carefully smoothing the hair underneath, and adopt a regal air as you survey the area.

You think to yourself, "I got this"

Heh, that fuzzy jacket is so cute! And a nice color combination.

Every once in a while I'll get someone who doesn't know Strata well asking if there's some occasion she's all dressed up for. That is not the case. She just always dresses like this when she's not hunting.

You see Lady Lysistrata Scio Nalfein.
She appears to be an Elf.
She is average height and appears to be an adult. She has slanting, mismatched grey and black eyes and intensely pale skin. She has long, glass-smooth deep scarlet hair swept back from a sharp widow's peak to stream glistening and perfectly straight almost to the ground. She has a refined collection of quintessentially Elven features, from the sharply defined cheekbones and patrician nose to the delicate outline of her jaw.
    She is in good shape.
She is wearing a brilliant-cut black diamond ferroniere, a full-sleeved lavish black velvet robe with tiny jewels winking among the folds, a blackened eahnor ring-of-flames solitude band, a single-shoulder silk gown ombre dyed with jade green fading into a deep black at the floor-length fishtail hem, and a pair of delicate jade silk slippers with spiral-carved obsidian heels.

Ferroniere hasn't been seen in a while, I think:
Dark as a moonless sky, still the many facets of the brilliant-cut diamond glitter with a starry radiance against a seven-rayed eahnor setting. A delicate, thread-thin chain suspends the black jewel in such a way that it would rest on its wearer's forehead like a third eye.

The gown and slippers are from Hedensk who rocks!

If there isn't a special event, I usually have my character wear the same outfit for a few days then change. I like to build up a bunch of container pieces that I can use for different outfits. I like to get bigger containers (like mantles, cloaks, jackets) deepened to hold more. I am a big fan of armor concealers and have about five sets of robes which I can also interchange with my characters outfits.

Usually, I pick a theme for my characters coloring, likes and dislikes or colors she might normally wear.

For a long time Hadya wore, black, copper, viridian/other green, bronze, natrual colors.

Silima tends to wear greys, blacks, blues, silvers and pallid accents.

I'll have my character (sometimes) go out of their normal color scheme for events.

I guess there is a lot of thought that goes into it, but I believe that kind of thought gives your character depth.

Ty changes clothes every few weeks. Outside of events, she's usually in blouse and pants or maybe blouse and skirt, and she doesn't wear heels, so her outfits work for both town and hunting. If there's only one container that's part of her outfit, she probably has a second container inside it along with her shield, armor, and other gear. That way I can whip it out when I'm ready to hunt and have something to put treasure in.

Morah only dresses up for events, and she's not thrilled about even that. She feels profoundly uncomfortable unarmed--which is why most of her shirts and dresses are dagger-holding ones.

Additionally, you're generally container free or limited to a single item. How do you guys consistently pull this off? Do you have an attendant, on another account, that basically holds you entire hunt outfit or do you put all your gear in the single container you do show on some of these outfits?

The main thing I am curious about is the amount of effort you go through to be consistent with this switching. I switch outfits for functions but generally overdress by a slight margin to go hunt. I pass this off to a large degree on my ability to sing my armor. My RP has it that my sung armor protects my dressier than average clothing from harm or wear to a good margin thus why I don't grunge down to hunt. Would it be better to be more consistent and switch outfits out after every single hunt?
Traiva hunts so little these days, and usually in short bursts, that I just sling on her armor, backpack, weapon sling (Warrior Guild sheath that holds her runestaff), and, if needed, arm sheath (also Warrior Guild) with her dagger for skinning...go hunt...then yank it all back off and stuff it into her cloak so she's back to whatever outfit she was wearing. Which is why you'll pretty much always see her in some sort of cloak-type garment, even for some special events. (Otherwise, I pass it off to a character on another account.)

One of the items I'm most happy I got worked on at EG was Marni's armor concealer. Yes, the design means that I don't change up her outfits the way I once did, but since she's not the cyber-Barbie Traiva is, I don't mind too much...and I really like not having to take off and put on the MBP.

As for containers.. I'm SLOWLY working on getting Traiva's cloak-worn garments deepened as much as possible, and her velvet pouch is deepened to its max. One of my next projects really should be working to do the same with my other bag/pouch type containers. And I know there are people who specifically look for pocketed clothing items to avoid having to wear a "backpack" as much as possible...and those who just store a lot in lockers.
