I hike with poles. And I am no bitch!! Poles are the only way to hike with a heavy pack over glaciers, unless you want to fall every few steps or fall in a crevasse.
Pic is from the 16k ridge of Denali.
Oh ... and from experience, glacial pools can be a nice temperature. During the day, temps on a glacier can get upwards of 80 F, making life miserable. Without the sun though, that shit gets cold very fast. Salt lowers the freezing point of water, so the Bering Sea can get colder than glacial pools (has been recorded at -2C).
This just in: Ice is fucking slippery. I was wearing crampons too.

haha anyone who has not worn crampons and used poles has clearly not spent much time on a glacier.
Gee, I've never been called fat before. It hurts more than I thought it would. Honestly, there may be tears.
Just so you know, ice is slippery wherever it happens to be, fucktard. My secret weapon was knowing that I was too fat to disappear down the holes in the glacier, the name of which escapes me at the moment.
Forgive me for being a mere tourist taking the opportunity to explore a glacier, and not a hard core climber. How dare I, such a fat loser, dare to feel share my experiences in nature. It must not be REAL nature, because other people were there.
Yeah, the owners didn't really think the URL through.
