There's a difference between "going the extra mile," and coming across like a childish clown. Not sure why I'm trying to explain this to you, since you are beyond hope.

I fail to see where creating a poster board comes across as childish or clownish? She's applying for a job where part of the requirements will be for her to create boards, flyers etc that are meant to attract attention.

She's in college. This isn't a 6th grade science fair. If you really want to prepare for a post-grad job market, learn to build a power point or make a presentation without fancy colors on a piece of paper. If you go into a job interview after college with a poster board, I guarantee you don't get that job. That's just a simple fact.

Yes, I know what a fucking RA does. And at my school, part of the RA's job also had to do with events. That includes the planning, execution and advertising of said events.

How do you normally go about advertising in a dorm about dorm events? Hrm.... boards? Its a decent way to help her in the specific job she is trying to get. She also claimed she was told this would help her. If they had turned around and said, "Yes, please work on a powerpoint presentation with slides, graphs and statistics" she probably would have worked on that.

Why wouldn't you use some sort of online social media that every college person seems to be using to advertise said events instead of some 1970's feel good movie flyer?

GR make some facebook group/page/whatever it is for your dorm, put some mock events, notices, FYIs, etc. things that you'd want your people to know/have access to. Then you bring your laptop, you show the panel the site and explain how you've already got the frame work in place and if you get the position you'd invite the residents of the dorm to this page so you could collab and track suggestions, issues, etc.

Totally.. I mean, i'd much rather go to a party advertised on glittery poster boards than one advertised on FB or something like that. Also, printing out a bunch of flyers at Kinkos and tacking them up on corkboard does not equal making a science fair-esque poster board. Need an "about me" intro for an interview? How about making one on the computer. You know, college-style instead of kindergarten.

Also, I just realized.. isn't GR like 18? Or 19? So that would make her what, a sophomore at best? Weird - when I lived on campus, you couldn't be an RA unless you were either a senior or grad student. Which kind of makes sense.. I mean who's going to listen to rules from an 18 or 19 year old?
